These days, peach blossom growers in Luu Vinh Son commune (Thach Ha district, Ha Tinh province ) are taking full advantage of the weather to focus on stripping leaves and caring for their trees to ensure the flowers bloom in time for the Lunar New Year.
To meet the market demand for the Lunar New Year, peach growers in Luu Vinh Son commune have mobilized workers to strip leaves and care for the trees. According to the farmers, the most suitable time to strip leaves is from the 17th day of the 11th lunar month onwards. This work must be done on time so that the tree can develop buds and nurture the peach buds, and at the same time produce large, beautiful flower buds for the New Year.
Ms. Phan Thi Hoa (Kim Son village) - who has 10 years of experience growing peach trees for Tet shared: "Peach growing requires investment and care all year round, but the months before Tet are very important. With the experience gained, on this occasion, the family mobilized 5 people to focus on stripping leaves, pruning branches, and clearing grass so that the peach trees can concentrate on nurturing the buds."
This year, Mrs. Hoa's family has 500 peach trees over two years old that are ready for sale. If the weather is favorable from now until the end of the week, the family will complete the leaf-removing process for the peach orchard.
According to peach growers in Luu Vinh Son commune, the most important issue for peach growing is still the weather. Ms. Tran Thi Tinh (Kim Son village) said: "The peach growing profession "succeeds or fails" thanks to December. If the weather is sunny during this period, the peaches will bloom early, on the contrary, if the weather is cold for a long time, the peaches will be slow to bud. This year, the weather is quite favorable, so peach growers do not have to apply solutions to stimulate flowering like previous years."
Stripping peach leaves at this time will help the tree focus nutrients on making buds, ensuring that flower buds are numerous, even, large flowers, thick petals and beautiful colors.
With many years of experience growing peach trees, Mr. Ho Sy Anh (Kim Son village) said: "Taking care of peach trees near Tet is extremely important, and is decisive for the success of the crop. Therefore, to have beautiful flowers during Tet, peach growers must strip the leaves a while in advance. This year, my family has 500 peach trees that can be sold. At this time, in addition to stripping the leaves, my family also regularly monitors the growth of the trees to have a suitable care regimen."
This year, people are very happy because the weather in recent days has not been too cold or too hot, which has helped to prevent the peach blossoms from blooming too early.
The entire Luu Vinh Son commune currently has over 600 households growing peach blossoms, with a total area of more than 12 hectares. In years with favorable weather, each household can earn an average of 100-400 million VND from selling peach blossoms for Tet (Lunar New Year).
Peach cultivation has been a part of the lives of the people in Luu Vinh Son commune for decades. Peach trees are not only the main crop for household gardening but also a "brand" for the locality. In recent years, despite unpredictable weather, thanks to years of experience in planting and caring for peach trees, the local peach trees are still thriving. Although it's only November in the lunar calendar, traders have already visited the orchards to survey prices, making everyone happy.
