This decision means that fans will no longer be able to translate and share stories on Webtoon's official platform.
Launched in 2022, this service allows users worldwide to participate in translating comics into various languages, contributing to the spread of Korean and international webcomics to a global audience.
However, after nearly three years of operation, the company stated that "maintaining and developing the system is no longer feasible," forcing them to shut down the platform.
According to an announcement on its homepage, Webtoon stopped accepting new users for its fan translation service on September 24th.
By November 26th, all translations and users' personal data will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. The company recommends that translators download backups of their translations before the service is discontinued to avoid data loss.

On October 5th, Webtoon Entertainment confirmed that it would be discontinuing its fan translation platform, Webtoon Translate.

Many community-generated translations have been of high quality and attracted tens of thousands of readers, especially in areas lacking professional translation teams.
However, in recent times, Webtoon has focused more on formal publishing and professional translation projects.
Fan translation activity has gradually slowed down due to stricter censorship procedures, a lack of supporting tools, and decreased user interaction.
The discontinuation of Webtoon Translate is believed to be part of a restructuring plan by its parent company, Webtoon Entertainment, aimed at focusing resources on core products such as Webtoon Originals, the Fast Pass system, and film and television adaptations.
Following the announcement, many users expressed their regret on social media. Numerous fans felt that the closure of WebtoonTranslate meant the loss of a "cultural sharing space" that had helped the fan community connect through language and a shared love of comics.
Others worry that smaller, less well-known series will be harder to reach an international readership. Nevertheless, Webtoon asserts that the company continues to deliver a "global reading experience" through its professional translation team.
