This decision means that fans will no longer be able to translate and share stories on Webtoon's official platform.
Launched in 2022, the service allows users around the world to participate in translating stories into many different languages, contributing to the spread of Korean and international webcomics to global readers.
However, after nearly three years of operation, the company said it was no longer feasible to "maintain and develop the system," forcing it to shut down the platform.
According to the announcement on the homepage, from September 24, Webtoon has stopped accepting new users for the fan translation service.
As of November 26, all translations and user personal data will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. The company recommends that translators back up their translations before the shutdown to avoid data loss.

On October 5, Webtoon Entertainment confirmed that it will end the fan translation platform Webtoon Translate.

Many community translations have achieved high quality and attracted tens of thousands of readers, especially in areas without professional translation teams.
However, in recent times, Webtoon has focused more on official publishing and professional translation projects.
Fan translation activity has gradually died down due to stricter censorship processes, lack of support tools, and reduced user interaction.
The suspension of Webtoon Translate is said to be part of parent company Webtoon Entertainment's restructuring plan to focus resources on key products such as Webtoon Originals, the Fast Pass system, and film and television adaptations.
After the announcement, many users expressed their regret on social media. Many fans said that the closure of WebtoonTranslate meant the loss of a "cultural sharing space" that helped the fan community connect through language and love of comics.
Others worry that smaller, less popular series will have a harder time reaching international readers. However, Webtoon insists it will continue to provide a “global reading experience” through its professional translation team.
