Talking to Dan Tri reporter , Ms. LTH (35 years old), residing in Yen Loc commune, Kim Son district ( Ninh Binh ) said that on June 18, her daughter NAN (7 years old) was discharged from the hospital to go home, after 15 days of emergency treatment for being bitten by a krait.

"The child's health is back to normal. Luckily for the family, the child was given timely emergency care," Ms. H. confided. Recalling the incident when her daughter was bitten on the thigh by a venomous snake that crawled into her bedroom, leaving her in critical condition, the young mother is still in shock.
The 35-year-old woman whose daughter had just passed through the "doors of death" recalled that at around 3:30 a.m. on June 2, while the family was sleeping, they suddenly heard their daughter screaming in her room on the second floor. At that time, the couple ran to the child's room, opened the door and saw the daughter crying and saying: "Something crawled on me and bit me."
Ms. H. quickly rummaged through the blanket and checked around the bed and discovered a krait lying there. "I was very scared when I saw the snake. When I checked my child's body, I saw a snake bite with 3 teeth marks," Ms. H. recounted.
According to Ms. H., at first after being bitten by the snake, her daughter showed no symptoms. The family beat the snake to death and threw it away. However, at around 5am, N. showed unusual symptoms, so the family quickly took her to the district hospital for emergency care.

At the district hospital, the doctors ordered N. to be transferred directly to Ninh Binh Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital for emergency treatment.
"On the way, my child's health deteriorated very quickly. He showed symptoms such as drooping eyelids, difficulty speaking, inability to open his mouth, dry heaving, and rapidly progressing respiratory failure, which made me panic because I was worried that my child would not survive," Ms. H. recalled.
At the Emergency Department of Ninh Binh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, after receiving pictures of the snake from the family, doctors determined that the child was poisoned by a krait bite, immediately intubated him, and then transferred him to the Intensive Care - Anti-Poison Department for intensive treatment.
Specialist Doctor I Nguyen Van Tai, Ninh Binh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital said that the krait belongs to the cobra family, most cases of being bitten by this type of snake will have muscle paralysis leading to respiratory failure and death if not given emergency care, timely and active treatment with resuscitation measures, especially mechanical ventilation.

After many days of intensive treatment, N. overcame the critical stage, was gradually weaned off the ventilator and recovered well. After 15 days in the hospital, the patient was healthy and normal and was discharged home by the doctors.
Up to now, although the child is safe and healthy, Ms. H's family is still very confused, because they do not know how the snake got into the bedroom.
She said that N.’s bedroom was on the second floor, the door system was closed, and there were no trees around the room. The family suspected that the snake had entered the room through the air conditioning pipe. Because this was the only way the room led outside.
