(CLO) President Donald Trump received positive reviews in the early days of his second term, with a large majority of Americans believing he was fulfilling his campaign promises.
According to a CBS/YouGov poll released on Sunday, 70% of respondents believe Trump is keeping his promises, while 30% believe his agenda differs from his initial commitments.
The overall approval rating for Mr. Trump is 53%, with 47% disapproving. The words used by voters to describe the White House occupant were also positive, including tough (69%), energetic (63%), focused (60%), and effective (58%).

Regarding specific policies, 59% of Americans support Trump's program to deport undocumented immigrants, while 64% agree with the plan to deploy troops to the US-Mexico border.
Regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict, 54% approved of Trump's handling of the situation, but only 13% thought the proposal for the US to take over Gaza after the conflict was a "good idea".
The poll also noted public reaction to the Department for Government Effectiveness (DOGE), led by Elon Musk. 51% of Americans believe the agency should have a certain degree of influence over government spending, while 49% believe its influence should be limited.
However, Trump scored lower on economic policies, particularly regarding inflation. 66% of respondents felt he hadn't focused enough on lowering prices, while only 31% felt he was prioritizing it appropriately.
Americans also have divided views on tariffs. 56% support imposing tariffs on China, but this number drops to 44% for Mexico, 40% for Europe, and 38% for Canada.
The poll was conducted from February 5th to 7th with 2,175 American participants, and has a margin of error of ±2.5%.
