The creative 'fire-lighter' at Bumhan Vina Company

Not only good at her profession, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien also holds the role of Vice President of the Trade Union of Bumhan Vina Company Limited (Hong Bang Ward).

As the Chief Design Administrator of Bumhan Vina Co., Ltd. (Hong Bang Ward), Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien constantly researches and creates in her work and achieves many successes. She has been honored three times with the Creative Labor Certificate from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor . Recently, she was one of 80 individuals and groups honored at the 11th National Emulation Congress of Workers, Civil Servants and Laborers.

The initiative "Proposing to change the supplier of load-bearing bolts for the steel structure system of a power plant in Poland" has just helped Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien receive the Creative Labor Certificate in 2024 from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor. The project was implemented in Poland, a country with strict technical and safety regulations.

She said that customers require all load-bearing bolts to be of European or Turkish origin, along with many strict standards, such as: European technical certificates, impact testing in cold environments of -30°C, anti-rust plating methods, high mechanical strength... However, suppliers in Europe and Turkey cannot meet all the requirements regarding technology, certificates, types and urgent delivery time of 2 months.

Receiving the project, Bumhan Vina Co., Ltd. faced the risk of not being able to provide the right type of product that the customer requested as well as being 8 weeks behind the delivery schedule with a late penalty of up to 10% of the total contract value, especially the company's reputation was affected.

Faced with this difficult problem, Ms. Hien boldly proposed changing the supplier to a large foreign enterprise that has the capacity to produce according to European standards. However, the most difficult problem was how to convince the customer to accept the change because that meant amending the terms of the signed contract, which was unprecedented in the company's history.

After researching and surveying the supplier’s capacity, certificates and product quality, Ms. Hien came up with the idea of convincing customers to accept by taking them to the factory for direct survey and evaluation. Customers were able to check the origin of materials, European standard certificates, durability, physical and mechanical properties; at the same time, request to change the plating method…

After the verification process, the customer completely trusted and agreed to use the proposed supply source instead of Europe or Turkey. Thanks to the bold initiative, the company saved a lot of costs, kept on schedule delivery, image and reputation. Besides the project in Poland, the initiative was also applied to 2 other projects in the UK and Singapore with a total value of more than 2.5 billion VND.

Previously, in 2023, Ms. Hien was also the author of the initiative "Reducing the size of the chimney transport frames of heat recovery boilers by changing the thickness of the outer edge welded sheet from 6 mm to 12 mm", applied to 5 projects in the US, Europe, and Asia with an economic efficiency of more than 7.2 billion VND.

Or her initiative "Converting gasket materials to avoid gas leakage at the entrances (maintenance doors) of heat recovery boilers in combined cycle power plants" in 2022 also contributed to a profit of more than 3 billion VND; at the same time, won the encouragement prize at the Technical Innovation contest among union members, workers, civil servants and laborers in Hai Phong .

Not only is she good at her job, Ms. Hien also holds the role of Vice President of the company's Trade Union. In this position, she and the Trade Union Executive Board actively advise and propose many policies to care for the lives of workers such as increasing income, improving the working environment, and ensuring welfare.

She always encourages young engineers to boldly propose new ideas, considering innovation an important part of daily work. For her, every initiative, no matter how small, can contribute to improving productivity, reducing costs, and especially spreading the spirit of creativity to the collective.
