According to Gaming Bolt , Palworld is perhaps the biggest surprise in the gaming world so far in 2024. This survival game launched as an early access title in January and within just one month, it had attracted over 25 million players across all platforms.
This confirms that Pocketpair, the developer of Palworld , has made a strong impression. So, what are their plans for the future? Is this independent game company from Japan looking for a new home?
The game developer Palworld says it is open to acquisition offers.
In an interview with Bloomberg, CEO Takuro Mizobe shared his thoughts on the possibility of an acquisition. He stated that while Pocketpair is happy operating independently, they remain "open to considering partnership or acquisition offers." Interestingly, however, Mizobe also confirmed that the game company is currently not in any negotiations with Microsoft, nor does it intend to go public.
Regardless of Pocketpair's future, Mizobe insists the company will remain a small studio. Previously, the developer admitted to a severe labor shortage. While looking to expand to support Palworld , Mizobe stated he still wants to create more smaller games. "Big-budget AAA titles aren't for us," he said.
Currently, Pocketpair's attractiveness as a potential acquisition target in the industry is undeniable. With a budget of just $6.7 million, Palworld has generated tens of billions of yen in profits for its developer.
Palworld is currently available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC as early access. Pocketpair is also in talks to bring the game to other platforms.
