Japan issues e-visas to Vietnamese tourists

The issuance of e-visas begins after the preparation work is completed, one by one, from among the travel companies designated to organize package tours.

Applicable visa type: Single entry short-term visa for tourism purposes within 15 days (limited to Vietnamese passport holders residing in Vietnam).

Visa applicants must present at the airport a "Visa issuance notice" displayed on the screen of a mobile phone, iPad, etc. (internet connection required). PDF data, screenshots or printed hard copies are not accepted.

According to data from the Japan Tourism Agency, Vietnamese visitors to the country in the first 8 months of 2023 were among the 10 largest tourist markets.

Specifically, Vietnamese visitors ranked 7th, after South Korea, mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, the US and above the Philippines, Australia, and Singapore. In August 2023, Vietnamese visitors to Japan reached 50,000, an increase of 16.5% over the same period in 2019 (comparison period before the pandemic). In total, in 8 months, Japan welcomed 397,000 Vietnamese visitors, an increase of 17.4% over the same period in 2019.

It is worth noting that among the 10 largest tourist markets of Japan in the past 8 months, Vietnamese tourists have grown the most compared to before the pandemic with 17.4%. In the top 10, only 3 tourist markets to Japan have increased compared to before the pandemic, in addition to Vietnam, there are Singapore (16.8%) and the US (14%). Other important markets of Japan such as China decreased by 81%, Thailand decreased by 28%, Taiwan decreased by 22%, Australia decreased by 13%, South Korea decreased by 8.6%...

Vietnamese tourists return to Japan in droves after the pandemic

On the other hand, Japanese visitors to Vietnam reached about 414,000 in the first 9 months of 2023, ranking 5th in the top largest international visitor markets, but down about 50% compared to the pre-pandemic period - 2019. Japan is one of 13 countries that Vietnam exempts from visas (unilaterally) along with South Korea, Italy, Germany, France... From August 15, visitors from these countries to Vietnam are allowed to stay visa-free for 45 days instead of 15 days according to the old regulations.
