Female student wins scholarship worth 6 billion VND

The female student said that the scholarship from Monash University for psychology, worth 6 billion VND, came to Linh by chance. “While casually searching for short-term exchange programs abroad, I came across an international website that compiled Monash scholarships for Asians. Three scholarships were listed, but without detailed information. I contacted the university and was told that specific application requirements wouldn't be available until May 2024. When the information came in May, I started preparing my application,” Linh shared.

The scholarship that the female student received is for students who cannot afford to study abroad independently, enabling them to achieve their dreams. Therefore, according to Linh, to prepare an impressive application, she demonstrated to the selection committee her dreams in the past, present, and future after completing her bachelor's degree at Monash University.

Linh also actively participates in extracurricular activities inside and outside the school. To date, Linh has participated in nearly 20 programs, of which she has been invited to attend international conferences three times. The female student also founded the "Wings" project on school psychology. "Participating in activities has helped me a lot in writing my essay. Through these activities, I have shown the judges my desire and dream to work in the field of psychology and study at Monash University," Linh said.

Together with nine students from Ha Tinh Specialized High School, Linh founded the "Wings" project, focusing on school psychology. The project involves online and in-person talks and sharing sessions to provide psychological support and motivation for students, especially those in their final year before stressful exams. Linh and her friends have organized two in-person talks with nearly 2,000 attendees and awarded 10 scholarships to encourage students' academic pursuits. If the group lacks sufficient knowledge to provide counseling, Linh will seek assistance from the school's psychology teacher.

Linh said that the scholarship is highly competitive, with only 1-2 scholarships awarded each year, so before the results were announced, she had mentally prepared herself for the possibility of failure. Linh confided: "I guessed the results would be sent on Monday, so I couldn't sleep that night. At 11 pm, my mother called, and I received an email with the subject line congratulating me on winning the scholarship in English. At that moment, I was overwhelmed with joy and immediately told my mother. I felt like my life had turned a new page from that moment."

In the future, Linh hopes to pursue postgraduate studies to become a specialist or psychologist. Linh shared this message with young people: “Don’t be afraid that your achievements aren’t enough to avoid applying for scholarships. You should try your best; even if you don’t get accepted, you can still gain experience, which will be very useful for your future.”

As Linh's homeroom teacher throughout her years at Ha Tinh Specialized High School, Mr. Le Huu Khuyen shared: “Linh is an all-around excellent student. She excels in communication, presentation, and public speaking, is very active in extracurricular activities, and is responsible to the community. I am very happy and proud of her receiving a full scholarship to Monash University, but not surprised because she deserves it. I hope Linh will continue to excel and strive in her studies so that she can serve her community, hometown, and country in the future.”
