In 2013, Mr. Vi decided to convert 4 hectares of low-yielding coffee to grow 60 durian trees.

To take care of the garden, he actively learns from the experiences of previous gardeners, participates in training sessions and seminars on durian care techniques. Due to the small area, he takes care of the garden meticulously and carefully, installs an economical irrigation system, mist sprayers, digs drainage lines, etc. to save on care.

The fertilizer he chooses is biological, tested many times in the garden to ensure safety for both the caretaker and the consumer.

Mr. Vi shared: “Working at this “late afternoon age” helps my life’s joy multiply, my spirit is comfortable, clear and I still feel useful to life.” This year, Mr. Vi’s family’s 60-tree durian garden is expected to yield about 15 tons of fruit.

In addition to durian, he also cultivates 2 sao of coffee intercropped with booth avocado. Each year, after deducting expenses, he earns more than 1 billion VND.

Not only is he a typical example of good economic performance, Mr. Vi also has more than 10 years as the Head of the Elderly Association of Village 5B.

The association currently has 43 members participating in activities, of which more than 50% of members specialize in durian cultivation, bringing high economic efficiency. Members in the association are always ready to share and support each other in developing family economy as well as building association funds, participating in cultural and artistic movements, and practicing sports regularly to improve health.
