North Korean leader Kim Jong-un accused the United States of being behind international disputes, while reaffirming Pyongyang's policy of developing its nuclear forces.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on February 9 that Kim Jong-un delivered a speech during his visit to the North Korean Ministry of Defense on February 8, marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the country's armed forces.
In his speech, Kim mentioned a series of new plans aimed at “strengthening all deterrence measures” and reaffirmed North Korea’s unwavering policy of developing a more powerful nuclear force.

The North Korean leader argued that the deployment of U.S. strategic nuclear assets on the Korean Peninsula, along with nuclear war simulation exercises between the U.S., Japan, and South Korea, is creating a " military imbalance" on the peninsula and in Northeast Asia, generating a "new conflict structure" and posing a serious challenge to North Korea.

Kim added that Pyongyang does not want unnecessary tensions in the region, but will take continuous countermeasures to ensure military balance, prevent the outbreak of a new war, and guarantee peace and security on the peninsula. He accused the US of being behind disputes of all sizes around the world and argued that this proves the pursuit of building unlimited defense capabilities is the most justifiable approach.
On February 8, North Korea issued a statement asserting that its nuclear weapons were built for combat and against adversaries, not as a diplomatic bargaining chip. Pyongyang's statement came after Washington indicated it would seek a solution for the complete denuclearization of North Korea, according to Yonhap.
