US President-elect Donald Trump continues to endorse Pete Hegseth as the new head of the Pentagon.
In a December 6th post on Truth Social, Trump praised Hegseth as someone with the charisma, experience, and enthusiasm to lead the U.S. Department of Defense . "Pete is the winner, and nothing can change that," Trump wrote.

Reuters reports that Hegseth is facing difficulties in gaining Senate confirmation for Trump's new cabinet. He has recently been accused of sexual harassment and alcohol abuse, but he denies these allegations.
In an interview with NBC News on December 6, Trump also acknowledged that some lawmakers were concerned about his nomination for Secretary of Defense, but the President-elect remained confident that Hegseth would be confirmed by the Senate.

Earlier this week, reports emerged that Trump might choose Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as a replacement if Hegseth is not confirmed by a majority of senators. The last time a US president's nomination was rejected by the Senate was in 1989, when the late President George HWBush chose John Tower for the position of US Secretary of Defense.
Since receiving his nomination, Hegseth has had numerous meetings with senators, particularly those who remain undecided. On December 6th, he wrote an article thanking Trump for his continued support, while emphasizing that he would not back down.
To date, two people have withdrawn from Trump's cabinet nominations, including Chad Chronister for the position of head of the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Matt Gaetz, who was initially the nominee for US Attorney General.
