Promoting professional ethics and social responsibility of journalists in the digital age

On the morning of December 3, in Tuyen Quang, the Journalists Association of the Northern Midlands and Mountains provinces and Hanoi city organized a workshop with the theme "Professional ethics and social responsibility of journalists in the digital age".

The workshop attracted the participation of about 50 delegates representing Journalists Associations of Bac Ninh , Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Lang Son, Cao Bang provinces...

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, journalist Mai Duc Thong, Editor-in-Chief of Newspapers, Radio and Television, Chairman of the Tuyen Quang Provincial Journalists Association, emphasized that 2025 is a year of many dramatic changes in press activities. Implementing the policy of streamlining the organizational apparatus, improving management effectiveness and the quality of information and propaganda, the process of arranging and merging press agencies is being deployed synchronously in many localities. This is an important step to overcome the fragmentation, dispersion of resources, and duplication of functions; at the same time, creating conditions for building a modern convergent newsroom model, enhancing innovation capacity and enhancing the position of the press in the digital age.

Therefore, the Workshop was organized very practically, in line with the current situation and closely following the spirit of the Press Law and the Charter of the Vietnam Journalists Association ; at the same time, concretizing the requirements in Directive No. 43-CT/TW dated April 8, 2020 of the Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership over the activities of the Vietnam Journalists Association.

Delegates attending the Workshop discussed and contributed many quality opinions, focusing on important groups of issues such as: Building a cultural environment in press agencies associated with the implementation of the Press Law, regulations on professional ethics of journalists; solutions to improve the quality of training and fostering for members in the period of digital transformation and AI; difficulties and obstacles in the activities of the Provincial Journalists Association when implementing mergers and consolidation; Political and ideological education, professional ethics and civic responsibility of journalists...

In order for the Journalists' Associations to soon stabilize their organizations and promote their roles, affirming their positions in the political system, Vice President of the Phu Tho Provincial Journalists' Association Bui Thuy Hang proposed that the Central Committee of the Association consult with the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Party committees and authorities of provinces and cities to pay attention to and closely direct the process of arranging, organizing and handing over the associations assigned by the Party and State to the local Fatherland Front Committees.

The People's Committees and Fatherland Front Committees of provinces and cities have directed functional agencies to soon issue temporary guidance on asset management, budget use and implementation of policies and regimes to help Associations maintain stable operations. In the long term, there will be a favorable mechanism for assigning and ordering tasks, allocating and managing reasonable budget expenditures to help Associations proactively organize activities, promote autonomy and creativity, and avoid dependence and delay.

Sharing about promoting the role of the Journalists' Associations and Clubs in the organization of the Association after the merger and practical experiences, Mr. Pham Vu Tuan, Vice President of the Journalists' Association of Bac Ninh province, said that the Association clearly identified the Journalists' Associations and Clubs as the basis for gathering and uniting members and journalists and as "extended arms" in the common home of the Association; promoting practical activities at each Association and Club are regular activities, enriching the Association's activities.

The branches are also a place to connect members with the Association, a bridge between central press reporters residing in the locality and members of some departments, branches, some communes and wards with the Association. This is a place for members to meet, exchange and share experiences in journalism. At the same time, the Association also regularly organizes extracurricular activities for branches and clubs to create strong ties in organizing activities...
