(To Quoc) - The Vung Ro National Historical Site is being developed into a cultural and historical tourism destination with magnificent natural scenery.

On August 14th, the People's Committee of Phu Yen province announced that it had approved the outline for the project to upgrade and restore the Vung Ro National Historical Relic Site.

The Vung Ro wharf, known as the "No Number" wharf, is a historical landmark in the resistance war against the US, serving as a receiving point for over 200 tons of weapons and goods from the North to support the Southern battlefield. Because of its historical significance, in June 1997, Vung Ro was classified as a National Historical Monument.

The Vung Ro historical site, constructed and completed in March 2021, covers an area of approximately 1 hectare and is located on Ca Pass, in Dong Hoa town, Phu Yen province.
Within the historical site grounds are a monument in the shape of an unmarked ship, a memorial to the martyrs, bas-reliefs depicting historical events involving the ships, and traces in the waters where the soldiers destroyed the ships to maintain secrecy,...

According to the decision, the objective of the project is to preserve and promote the value of the Vung Ro national historical site in a sustainable and comprehensive manner, serving the socio-economic development of the locality.

Specifically, the Vung Ro historical site will become a sacred place to commemorate the historical events of Vung Ro, a holy place for people from all walks of life, both within and outside the province, to come and remember the heroes and martyrs who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the nation. It will be a place for organizing ceremonies on important national holidays; and for holding activities and educational programs to instill pride in the history of nation-building and national defense passed down through generations.

The "No Number" pier is also envisioned to become a cultural and historical tourism destination, showcasing the majestic natural scenery of Vung Ro to people nationwide and international tourists, highlighting the beauty of nature along with a legend from the history of the Vietnamese people's resistance against foreign invaders.

Vung Ro Bay has a surface area of 1,640 hectares, a depth capable of accommodating ships with a tonnage of over 5,000 tons, and is sheltered by high mountain ranges. In just a short period, from November 1964 to February 1965, Vung Ro harbor received four "No Number" ships.

The fourth ship (ship 143), which docked on the night of February 15, 1965, was discovered by the enemy. To ensure the secrecy and safety of the Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea, our troops had to use explosives to sink the ship in the Bai Chua area, preventing it from falling into enemy hands.

Previously, in December 2023, the People's Committee of Phu Yen province approved the overall plan for the preservation and promotion of the value of historical relics in the province for the period 2023-2030, aiming to preserve and promote the value of historical relics in the province in a sustainable and comprehensive manner, serving the socio-economic development of the locality. The plan focuses on relics with potential for tourism development, especially those classified as scenic landscapes.
