(VLO) On the morning of August 8, the National Steering Committee against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods (National Steering Committee 389) held an online conference to evaluate the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in the first 6 months of the year and deploy tasks for the last 6 months of 2024.

At the Vinh Long province bridge, Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyen Thanh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; representatives of leaders of departments and branches who are members of the Provincial Steering Committee 389 attended.
According to the report, in the first 6 months of 2024, Steering Committee 389 of ministries, branches and provinces and cities across the country did a good job of leading, directing and strictly implementing the directives of the Government and National Steering Committee 389 on the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods.
At the same time, proactively develop a plan to combat smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in 2024 that is suitable to the situation of the area, unit and locality for effective implementation.
Thereby, functional forces nationwide detected and handled 64,185 violations; down 2.82% over the same period.
Of these, there were 6,042 cases of trading and transporting prohibited and smuggled goods; 55,133 cases of commercial fraud and tax fraud; 3,010 cases of counterfeit goods and intellectual property violations. Over 6,066 billion VND was collected for the state budget, 650 criminal cases were prosecuted with 1,913 violators...
However, according to the assessment of the National Steering Committee 389, the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods also has limitations such as the inspection and control by authorities at times and in some places are not unified and not regular, creating many loopholes for the subjects to operate; the capacity and professional qualifications of some cadres, civil servants and officers performing tasks in some new fields are still limited; the number of smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit and prohibited goods cases detected and handled is not commensurate with the actual situation and task requirements...
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang requested that agencies and units, according to their assigned functions and tasks, continue to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement the directions of the Government and the Prime Minister, promote the role of the head; proactively coordinate to develop programs, plans and solutions to combat smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods.
At the same time, continue to review and recommend competent authorities to adjust shortcomings in regulations on handling and sanctioning violations; strengthen inspection, supervision, and overcome loopholes in the implementation process; regularly rectify and promote public ethics and professional expertise of cadres and civil servants performing this task.
In addition, promote the application of science and technology to improve the effectiveness of the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods; propagate and raise people's awareness and consciousness so that each person becomes a smart consumer.
