On October 22, Mr. Le Van Dung, Principal of An Thanh Secondary School (Van Duc Commune, Gia Lai Province) confirmed the incident in which parents accused Vice Principal Pham Minh Trung of asking teachers to stop teaching so that students could go out to the yard to clean up under the hot sun.

According to parents' feedback, at around 1:50 p.m. on October 2, when students in classes 8A3 and 9A1 were in their first period, Mr. Pham Minh Trung entered the classroom and asked the teacher to stop the lesson so the students could go out to the yard to clean up.

The reason given by Mr. Trung was that the morning cleaning area of these two classes still had trash and leaves, so it needed to be cleaned up. He asked the teachers of the two classes to make up for the missed class on the morning of October 6, because he believed that the school had the right to adjust the teaching schedule when teachers and students did not meet the requirements to attend class.

Parents also reported that when 6A1 students were studying natural science taught by Ms. Hoang Thi Bich Hanh, Vice Principal Pham Minh Trung entered the classroom to check the lesson plan and teaching equipment. When the class found out that there was a lack of teaching equipment, Mr. Trung loudly yelled and asked Ms. Hanh to stop the lesson and go to the office.

Many parents believe that Mr. Trung's act of stopping class and forcing students to sweep the yard in the midday sun is unacceptable, affects the students' right to study, and shows signs of abuse of power and violation of teacher ethics.

According to Mr. Le Van Dung, Principal of An Thanh Secondary School, Mr. Trung asked students to clean the school yard to remind them to strictly follow the cleaning schedule and raise awareness of keeping the school clean. However, asking students to clean during class time has upset parents.

“The school accepts responsibility for handling the situation unscientifically and unharmoniously. In the near future, the school will hold a meeting to remind departments to comply with regulations, ensure that cleaning does not affect class time, and create peace of mind for students and parents,” said Mr. Dung.

Regarding the request for the 6A1 class teacher to stop the class, Mr. Dung explained that according to regulations, if teaching conditions are not safe, the teacher must temporarily stop and make up the lesson on another day.

Mr. Dung also admitted that Mr. Pham Minh Trung spoke a bit loudly, sometimes making listeners feel like they were being yelled at, even though he did not insult teachers or students. The school held a meeting to give Mr. Trung some advice so that he could learn from his experience and adjust his behavior to be gentler.
