Accordingly, Ms. LTĐ (residing in Thai Binh City, Thai Binh Province), mother of candidate LKA, posted online the scores for the first round of the 10th grade entrance exam for high school in Literature, Mathematics, and English as 7.25, 4.5, and 4.2 respectively.
Thai Binh Provincial Department of Education and Training
By August 20th, after the inspection, Ms. D.'s child's math score was increased by 1 point to 5.5 points, and they were still admitted to their first-choice school, Chu Van An High School.
However, the very next morning (August 21st), the homeroom teacher of this student's 9th grade class informed them that their child had failed. The family rushed to check the exam results and were shocked to find that the scores for Literature and English remained the same, but the Math score dropped by 5 points, to 0.5; bringing the total score down to 21.7, meaning that student LKA had failed.
Along with the information provided, Mrs. D.'s family also provided three screenshots showing the candidate's scores changing across different login attempts.
Ms. D. further informed that, after her son took the entrance exam for 10th grade and compared his answers with the answer key, he estimated that he would score around 5 points in Math.
Upon receiving this information, on the afternoon of August 23rd, the Department of Education and Training of Thai Binh province held a meeting with relevant individuals and units, attended by representatives from the Thai Binh Provincial Police, Viettel Thai Binh, the Board of Directors of Hoang Dieu Secondary School, Thai Binh City, and Ms. LTĐ, the mother of student LKA.
At the meeting, Ms. D. presented information indicating that candidate LKA's math score had changed when checked at different times on the Thai Binh province's primary school enrollment system. Specifically, the score checked on the system before the inspection was 4.5 points in math.
The scores checked on the system after the inspection (based on parents' feedback) were 5.5 points at 9:02 AM on August 20th, 5.5 points at 4:14 PM on August 20th, and 0.5 points at 9:00 AM on August 21st.
The family also provided three screenshots. The family requested that an appeal be filed for the student's math exam score immediately and asked the department to clarify the matter.
During the meeting, representatives from Viettel Thai Binh opened the search history (log) on the Thai Binh province's primary school enrollment system in the presence of the meeting participants. The results showed that candidate LKA had searched more than 20 times.
All math score lookups are worth 0.5 points (detailed lookup history is included, including one lookup at 9:02:58 AM, which coincides with the time provided by the family).
Subsequently, Viettel Thai Binh staff checked the exam score of candidate LKA on the system in front of all members; at the time of checking, the math score was 0.5 points.
Mr. Dang Xuan Phong, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Thai Binh province, said that they had re-checked the scores on the score announcement system and did not understand where the data displayed on the screen of candidate LKA's family came from.
Mr. Phong added that, according to experts, there are cases where the numbers displayed on the screen can be altered, but the altered numbers are not saved in the system. The Department has advised parents to submit an appeal to ensure the rights of the candidates are protected.
According to Ms. LTĐ., the family has now filed an appeal for candidate LKA.
