Spreading good deeds
From its initial purpose of providing affordable, quality breakfasts for struggling workers and assisting the elderly and sick, the "5k Vegetarian Noodles" group in Phuoc Xuyen neighborhood (Nam Phuoc town) has now expanded to provide free meals and porridge twice a month to poor patients.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien, Head of the Women's Association of Phuoc Xuyen neighborhood, the "5k Vegetarian Noodles" group was established in August 2022 by the Neighborhood Front Committee in coordination with the Women's Association, and currently has 16 members.
Every month, on the first and fifteenth days, the group cooks vegetarian noodles and sells them for 5,000 VND per bowl, giving away about 70 servings to elderly, sick, and lonely people in the neighborhood. On the major full moon days of April, July, and October, the group donates noodles to all elderly people in Phuoc Xuyen neighborhood.
After a period of operation, with funding from benefactors, the group cooked and distributed free porridge and rice to poor patients at the Duy Xuyen District Health Center and the Northern Quang Nam Regional General Hospital (Dai Loc).
In 2024, the group also organized cooking and care for the elderly at Hiep Duc Nursing Home, and donated gifts to children at the Phu Ninh District Rehabilitation Center for Children with Disabilities. From the beginning of 2024 until now, the group has cooked and distributed more than 2,000 meals of rice, noodles, and porridge to poor patients.
"Seeing the workers appreciate the 5,000 VND portion of vegetarian noodles from our group, and the underprivileged patients happily receiving rice and porridge, we feel happy because we have done something useful," Ms. Lien confided.
In 2021, the Women's Union of Duy Phuoc commune implemented the "Mother's Love Study Corner" model with the aim of helping disadvantaged students have a study corner with a desk, chair, and study lamp.
Nguyen Thi Thanh Truc (a student in class 6/2, Kim Dong Secondary School) shared: “Previously, when I was invited to speak at a forum on supporting students to go to school, I said that my dream was to have a study corner. Afterwards, the teachers gave me a desk, chair, and study lamp, and I felt very happy, and my studies improved.”
Ms. Vo Thi Hong Anh, President of the Women's Union of Duy Phuoc commune, said that the model has created a widespread impact in the community, thereby supporting study corners for 14 students in the commune.
In addition, the association flexibly mobilizes resources to donate school supplies and scholarships to poor students, helping them to build confidence and determination, and fulfill their dreams of knowledge.
Many meaningful models
Ms. Tran Thi Minh Yen, Chairwoman of the Duy Xuyen District Women's Union, said that every year, the District Women's Union directs its branches at all levels to strengthen propaganda, incorporating the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics, and style into the activities of the union; and integrating the dissemination of Party directives and resolutions...
Since then, the practice of learning from and following President Ho Chi Minh has spread widely among female cadres and members, with many meaningful and practical movements and activities focused on local communities.
From 2021 to the present, associations at all levels, from district to grassroots, have continued to maintain and improve the effectiveness of models following President Ho Chi Minh's example, such as "Bookcases for following President Ho Chi Minh's example," "Savings rice jars," "Bowls of porridge of compassion," and "Charitable meals"...
New models have been developed and effectively implemented in the community, such as "5k Breakfast", "0-Dong Porridge" (Nam Phuoc town), "Saving for Orphaned Children" (Duy Thanh), "Savings Box" (Duy Nghia, Duy Hai), "Sharing Love" stores, and "Women's Support for Education" in 14 communes and towns...
According to Ms. Tran Thi Minh Yen, a prime example is the "Charity Piggy Bank" model, which has spread the practice of saving among female officials and members.
Over the past three years, local branches of the association have regularly opened their piggy banks, collecting over 1 billion VND. A portion of this money has been allocated to the charity fund of the communes and towns to provide scholarships and gifts to disadvantaged students and women. Similarly, the "Godmother" model has sponsored 71 orphaned children with particularly difficult circumstances, providing support ranging from 500,000 VND to 1,000,000 VND per month per child until they reach 18 years old.
“Over the past period, the movement to learn from and follow President Ho Chi Minh's example has spread widely, with many exemplary groups and individuals emerging, creating a positive effect in the community. This has motivated cadres and members to strive to promote the fine qualities of women in the new era, to compete in learning, working, developing the economy , sharing love, and working together to build a better society,” Ms. Yen shared.
