Accordingly, Baby YM, 5 days old, from A Ky village, Thuong Trach commune ( Quang Tri ) was hospitalized in critical condition, with a distended abdomen, difficulty breathing, high fever, and was diagnosed with a perforated stomach and severe sepsis. Previously, the baby was born naturally at home, the umbilical cord was cut with a sickle, and was fed rice by her mother from the very first days.

Doctors at the Pediatrics Department of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi had to perform emergency surgery to treat the stomach injury, use high doses of antibiotics and provide intravenous nutrition for 28 days. The baby has now fully recovered and has been discharged from the hospital.
Doctor Han recommends that newborns should be exclusively breastfed for at least the first 4 months. Do not feed them rice, porridge, rice water or any solid food before 6 months of age. Umbilical cord cutting and care must be done with sterile instruments and according to the instructions of medical staff. If the child has a fever, bloating, refuses to breastfeed, or has difficulty breathing, he or she should be taken to the hospital immediately for examination.
