Launch of the book series

The book series consists of four books by stage author Tat Tho, currently living in Quang Ninh. “The Burned Story” - a script in volume 1 of this book series is being staged by Hong Van Drama Theater ( Ho Chi Minh City) into a play, performed by young actors of generation Z. The play is expected to be selected to participate in the National Drama Festival in 2026.

The content of the book series conveys the message of the aspiration for a meaningful life and the passion to devote oneself to a progressive, beautiful, and humane life of ordinary, working people.

They constantly fought against difficult and harsh circumstances; against rain of bombs and bullets; against old age, sickness; and against evil and meanness with the best weapons they had. These were intelligence, enthusiasm, resilience, goodness, humanity, and charity.

They were geological engineers, pearl farming engineers, forest rangers, border guards, honest people, Truong Son reporters, artists who served the resistance... and among them was the author himself.

Volume 1 of the book series titled “Stage Collection” includes 6 long scripts; including 3 Cheo scripts and 3 spoken drama scripts. Each play has its own unique color, representing a special life experience. Some scripts in this book have been staged or won awards such as the Cheo scripts “Road to Sacred Mountain” and “Pearl Island” which were staged by professional Cheo theaters many years ago. The spoken drama script “Echo of the Green Forest” was adapted from Cheo to “Sound of the Forest” by Dr. Tran Dinh Ngon, winning a Silver Medal at the Cheo Theater Festival in 2000, bringing the B Script Prize awarded by the Association of Stage Artists to author Tat Tho. The spoken drama script “Flip the Cheo” (formerly known as “Let Me Go to Prison”) was broadcast on Voice of Vietnam in 2021.

Volume 2 of the book series is the Truong Son diary titled “Seven Orchids”. This book has only 258 pages but is full of material and events, recreating a panoramic picture of Truong Son during the resistance war against the US, saving the country in the years 1971, 1972; with the perspective of an artist serving on the battlefield at that time.

The book presents the perspective of an artist in a fierce battle, with wartime artists who had no stage, no lights, but were still very brilliant. They worked and devoted themselves in the spirit of “singing to drown out the sound of bombs”.

The book also provides an explanation of the reasons for our victory at the cultural level, the national identities that form all the specific names such as courage, bravery, determination, sacrifice...

Volume 3 is a “Short Play Collection” consisting of 409 pages with 22 short plays and one long opera. These are scripts that have been staged and won awards in many amateur theater competitions in Quang Ninh and nationwide, creating the brand of author Tat Tho.

Volume 4 is a critical essay collection consisting of 22 typical articles that have been published in newspapers and have created a lot of lively public opinion about the field of literature and art in recent years in Quang Ninh. The book shows the author's special personality. These are clear, unified, and decisive concepts with a unique and direct perspective on the field of literature and art in Quang Ninh in particular and the whole country in general.

“The Hero Without a Gun” is the entire spiritual and intellectual legacy of an 82-year-old author who has devoted his whole life to the country's stage arts with rich social life materials.
