Launch of photo books “50 Years of Vietnam's Strength” and “City of Peace”

While the book "50 Years of Vietnamese Strength" embodies an epic spirit, the book "City of Peace - Our City" portrays a Ho Chi Minh City that is innovative and modern, yet still approachable and friendly.

On August 10th, the opening ceremony of the exhibition and the launch of two photo books, "50 Years of Vietnam's Strength" and "City of Peace - Our City," by photographer Nguyen A took place at the Vietnam Women's Museum (36 Ly Thuong Kiet, Hanoi).

This event is the result of a meticulous and passionate creative journey by photographer Nguyen A, who has quietly but persistently dedicated himself to capturing authentic moments of Vietnamese people amidst the flow of history and contemporary urban life.

Among them, the photo book "50 Years of Vietnam's Strength," created by photographer Nguyen A over several months, captures images of soldiers during their training and participation in the parade and march commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) in Ho Chi Minh City.

The book contains valuable documentary footage, depicting the responsible participation of officers and soldiers in the emotional and impressive A50 journey.

Sharing about the process of creating this book, photographer Nguyen A said that he went through a very difficult and arduous period of work, often having to stay up all night or sleep on the streets... just to capture beautiful and meaningful moments during rehearsals, preliminary and final rehearsals of programs, recording vivid historical images, memorable moments during important anniversaries of the country and the nation.

He traveled and ran through the streets with the parades and marches to capture unique images, striving to avoid missing any glimpses of the heroic spirit of a generation continuing the fine traditions left behind by their ancestors…

Regarding the book "City of Peace - Our City," photographer Nguyen A shared that he was born and raised in Ho Chi Minh City, so he loves this land very much. Therefore, he has traveled extensively, met many people, and taken many pictures of the city.

The more than 50 stories he included in this book are not just photographs, but the life and essence of Ho Chi Minh City, preserved through his high-quality photographic works. They offer viewers a different perspective on Ho Chi Minh City – not just a bustling metropolis, but a vibrant, harmonious city where people are connected to their community and living space.

According to photographer Nguyen A, both books reflect his great passion. The simultaneous release of both books is an opportunity for photographer Nguyen A to express his gratitude to the city he loves.

If the book "50 Years of Vietnamese Strength" embodies an epic spirit, then the book "City of Peace - Our City" is a continuation of that aspiration, a Ho Chi Minh City that is constantly renewing and modernizing, yet remaining close and friendly.

Photographer Nguyen A hopes that the book will convey to the public a message about a peaceful city, a city rising in a new era, and that each citizen, by living positively, also contributes to making it a livable city.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition and book launch, the Deputy Director of the Vietnam Institute of National Defense Strategy and History, Major General, Associate Professor-Doctor Nguyen Van Sau, said that as a dedicated artist with a compassionate heart, vision, and profound humanity, the photographs of photographer Nguyen A are a valuable resource in educating the younger generation to continue the historical traditions of the nation.

According to Major General Nguyen Van Sau, traditional historical education, especially for the younger generation, requires many methods, but pictures and films are very effective. In this case, the language of photography has great appeal, an intuitive impact, and the ability to convey information in a way that enriches and diversifies the understanding of history…

Lieutenant Colonel Dang Dinh Kien, Deputy Head of Political Affairs of the 935th Air Force Regiment under the 370th Division, and a Su-30mk2 fighter pilot who flew in the ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country, said he was moved to see himself and his comrades in the photos taken by photographer Nguyen A; those were very beautiful moments.

Speaking about the photo of him with Colonel Nguyen The Dung, Political Commissar of the 371st Division, Air Defense-Air Force Command, featured in the book, Lieutenant Colonel Dang Dinh Kien said that it was a genuine and meaningful photo, capturing the moment he and Colonel Nguyen The Dung were walking and discussing work after completing a flight...

Dr. Ly Thi Mai, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Costume Research Institute, shared that the two photo books by photographer Nguyen A are beautiful images of Vietnamese people in historical moments, on important national holidays.

The exhibition showcases 100 outstanding photographs selected from the two photo books being released. These images are deeply meaningful, offering moving glimpses into the spirit, willpower, and silent dedication of many generations of Vietnamese people.

The exhibition is open to visitors until August 12, 2025.
