In the early winter crop of 2025, farmers in Truong Tan commune ( Hai Phong ) earned a profit of 10 million VND per sao of cabbage.

Tan Minh Duc Cooperative in Truong Tan Commune has 198 members. In the 2025 winter crop, the cooperative will plant about 100 hectares of various vegetables, of which the early winter crop area is about 20 hectares of cabbage and kohlrabi along with some leafy vegetables. In recent days, farmers have been very excited because vegetables have had a good harvest and good prices.

Mr. Hoang Anh Thu, Deputy Director of the Cooperative, said that although the early winter crop this year was unfavorable due to the weather in October, some areas had to be replanted, but overall, up to now, the yield and selling price are much higher than last year. For example, cabbage yields about 1.5 tons/sao, the current selling price is about 12,000 VND/kg, at the beginning of the season it was 15,000 VND/kg, more than twice as high as last year. Each sao of kohlrabi has about 2,500 plants, the price at the field is 5,000 VND/plant. Each sao of cabbage and kohlrabi after deducting costs brings in a profit of about 10 million VND, nearly double that of 2024.

Cooperative members are actively taking care of the main crop of vegetables, expected to be harvested in January. Currently, the cooperative is growing 40 hectares of main-season vegetables and 60 hectares of cucumbers in greenhouses. The first crop of cucumbers is being harvested at a selling price of 17,000 to 22,000 VND/kg in the garden, 3-4 times higher than the same period at the beginning of the winter crop in 2024.

Farmers in Kim Thanh commune (Hai Phong) harvest early winter vegetables in 2025.

According to Mr. Hoang Anh Thu, this year, people take better care, control irrigation water and fertilizer, so the early winter vegetables are of better quality and appearance. Currently, the products of Tan Minh Duc Cooperative are sold in Hai Phong and some northern provinces and cities. Consumption is very favorable because about 80% of the output has been ordered, the rest is sold by people to wholesale markets.

These days, the processing and packaging workshop of Hoang Nam Phat Cooperative is always busy purchasing, processing and consuming early winter vegetables. According to Mr. Ho Viet Hoan, Director of the Cooperative, this year, Hai Phong's winter vegetables are of better quality and the selling price is 3-4 times higher than last year's crop. Currently, each day the unit is purchasing about 50 tons of vegetables of all kinds such as kohlrabi, cabbage, cauliflower... to process, package and consume to various places.

According to Mr. Pham Duc Loc, Head of the Department of Professional Affairs, Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, Department of Agriculture and Environment of Hai Phong, in the 2025 winter crop, Hai Phong city strives to plant 29,000 hectares of vegetables of all kinds. Although the planting progress was interrupted at the beginning of the season due to the impact of storms No. 10 and No. 11, the Department promptly provided specific and detailed instructions to help farmers adjust their production plans in accordance with actual conditions, avoiding late planting or overlapping planting. Along with that, the agricultural sector also encourages production areas to apply VietGAP and GlobalGAP processes, promote production according to the value chain, in order to improve the quality of agricultural products and increase the competitiveness of Hai Phong vegetables in the market, Mr. Loc shared.

Farmers in Ha Bac commune (Hai Phong) take care of onion plants for the 2025 winter crop.

By the end of November, the entire city had planted over 26,000 hectares of winter crops (reaching more than 90% of the plan). Of which, vegetables of all kinds were about 20,000 hectares, including: about 4,500 hectares of cabbage, kohlrabi, cauliflower, 7,100 hectares of onions, garlic, 1,300 hectares of carrots, 900 hectares of potatoes, 1,900 hectares of various types of melons and squash, about 7,000 hectares of spices and other vegetables...

According to Mr. Pham Duc Loc, up to now, over 4,000 hectares of winter vegetables have been harvested, mainly melons, squash, cabbage, kohlrabi, cauliflower, sweet cabbage, etc. In general, vegetable products from the beginning of the season until now have always been favorable, the selling price has always remained high compared to the previous year and the average of many years from 25% to 40% depending on the type.

It can be seen that with the active participation of the agricultural sector in guiding and flexibly managing the season and the initiative of farmers, Hai Phong's winter crop has quickly overcome the consequences of storms and has brought about initial positive results. According to the representative of the leadership of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Hai Phong, the Department has been and is continuing to direct specialized agencies to coordinate with localities to provide technical guidance to farmers. This winter crop, safe vegetable production models, vegetables according to VietGAP standards have been expanded. Currently, Hai Phong farmers are actively taking care of main-season vegetables in preparation for the end of the year and the Tet market.
