Was Salon 1900 unfairly accused?
This morning, June 13th, the online community was abuzz with the circulating information that "Salon 1900 in Hanoi 'stole' 650 sets of real hair from cancer patients."
Specifically, information widely shared on many forums stated: "Following the 1900 Hair salon case, people donated 700 sets of hair to cancer patients, the shop owner took 650 and only gave away 50 sets." This content was shared rapidly with thousands of comments, the majority condemning and expressing outrage at the hair salon.
Information exposing Salon 1900 for allegedly stealing donated hair from cancer patients has spread rapidly on social media (screenshot).
According to an investigation by a reporter from Giao Thong Newspaper, this information originated from a post by a hair salon owner in Bac Ninh with the caption: "Next time the charity program includes 1900 Hair Salon, there should be no PN and the members of the Bac Ninh Charitable Haircutting Club," along with the aforementioned "exposing" information.
However, in an interview with a reporter from Giao Thong Newspaper, Dr. Nguyen Ba Tinh, Deputy Director of the Bright Tomorrow Cancer Patient Support Fund, refuted this circulating information: "The information circulating on social media that 1900 is holding over 700 donated hair strands in Bac Ninh is inaccurate. In reality, all of these donated hair strands are still at Bac Ninh General Hospital and will be transferred to the Bright Tomorrow Fund. Afterward, the Fund will send these hair strands to wig manufacturers, who will then continue to donate them to cancer patients."
Mr. Tinh added: He was personally present and donated 50 wigs to cancer patients in Bac Ninh on June 11th. This program was organized by the Bright Tomorrow Foundation, and Salon 1900 was a partner of the Foundation.
Since September 2022, the program to encourage hair donation and create and donate wigs to cancer patients has been organized and implemented by the Bright Tomorrow Cancer Patient Support Fund. To date, 1,400 wigs have been donated to cancer patients in many hospitals nationwide, including Bac Ninh General Hospital and Bac Giang Oncology Hospital.
According to Mr. Tinh, Salon 1900 has been a partner with the Foundation from the beginning in this program and has done a good job of mobilizing hair donations in the community. Over the past period, this unit has also supported the Foundation with 200 wigs and approximately 300 million VND for the hair donation activity for cancer patients.
What did the hospital leader who received the hair say?
Also related to this matter, Mr. Nguyen Van Duong, Deputy Director of Bac Ninh General Hospital, stated: This information is untrue. Previously, the hospital, in collaboration with the Bright Tomorrow Foundation, organized a program to donate hair to cancer patients. During the program, Apo Hair Company, through the Bright Tomorrow Foundation, donated 50 sets of hair to patients at the hospital's Oncology Center. There was no donation of 50 sets of hair by Salon 1900; they only participated in helping to cut and style the patients' hair along with the donors.
Besides the 1900 hair salon, 15 other hair salons in Bac Ninh are also participating in supporting the hospital in cutting and styling hair for donors and patients at the hospital. In addition, they provide free hair styling services for donors at these 16 salons.
Mr. Duong also added that on June 7th, a total of 703 strands of hair were donated to cancer patients at the hospital. These hair strands are currently being stored by the hospital's social work department, awaiting transfer to the Bright Tomorrow Fund.
Following the uproar on social media, a manager of the hair salon stated, "The information that the salon donated 50 sets of wigs and took back 650 sets when participating in a wig donation program for cancer patients at Bac Ninh General Hospital is fabricated, one-sided, and greatly affects the reputation of this hair salon."
