Samsung Galaxy Watch is about to have a sleep apnea detection feature

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên15/02/2024

According to GadgetMatch , just a month after the Apple Watch removed a crucial sensor (monitoring blood oxygen levels) due to a legal dispute, Samsung fans unexpectedly received good news about a new feature. Specifically, the company announced that it has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for a sleep apnea monitoring sensor to work on the Galaxy Watch smartwatch.

The Galaxy Watch will soon have a sleep apnea detection feature.

Sleep apnea is a common condition that affects sleep and overall health. The new feature will allow users 22 and older to track their sleep. If at least two of the tracking sessions detect abnormalities lasting 4 hours or more, the Galaxy Watch will notify the user.

Although this feature hasn't been rolled out yet, Samsung has described how it works. Users simply wear the watch while sleeping, and the data is analyzed to look for signs of apnea, such as decreased breathing rate or temporary cessation of breathing.

The new feature will be updated for the Galaxy Watch line in the US in Q3 2024. This is a significant step forward in using wearable devices to monitor health and improve sleep for users.

While this feature cannot replace professional medical diagnosis and treatment, it can be a useful tool to help users recognize potential symptoms and seek timely medical care.
