On the afternoon of September 13th, the Quang Ninh Provincial Department of Tourism announced that Typhoon No. 3 had caused significant damage to the province's tourism industry.
Most accommodations in Ha Long City, Cam Pha City, Van Don District, and Co To Island suffered damage such as broken windows and roof tiles on villas; wind causing ceilings to collapse or damage furniture; fallen trees and lampposts in the grounds; and damage to electrical, air conditioning, and water systems.
Tourist groups have been able to resume their visits to Ha Long Bay.
In the Ha Long Bay area alone, most of the management and operational facilities of the Ha Long Bay Management Board suffered roof damage, other damage, and subsidence.
The Cua Van Floating Cultural Center suffered extensive damage, and 15 floating houses preserved at Cua Van completely sank. The stone railings of the pier leading to Thien Cung Cave also collapsed...
Many pieces of equipment, signs, and regulations boards were broken or damaged; ornamental trees at tourist attractions in Ha Long Bay were almost completely uprooted.
The property of people and businesses at service points (boat rowing, kayaking) in Ha Long Bay (Ba Hang, Cong Do, Cua Van, Hang Luon, Vung Vieng) suffered heavy damage.
Tourist boats for visiting Ha Long Bay have always been ready to serve visitors.
At Tuan Chau International Port, the roof, offices, and reception areas of businesses operating at the port were damaged. At Ha Long International Passenger Port, berth number 3 had its entire pontoon section washed away; berth number 2 had two pontoons sunk...
During typhoon number 3, 27 tourist boats and 4 transport vessels sank, including 23 tourist boats at Tuan Chau International Port, 2 boats in Ha Long Bay, and 2 tourist boats in the Poland area.
Fortunately, in Quang Ninh province in general, and Ha Long Bay in particular, there have been no reported casualties involving tourists or tourism industry staff.

Despite the extensive damage, immediately after the storm passed, the Ha Long Bay Management Board and units of the Quang Ninh Department of Transport actively worked to repair the damage affecting tourist routes and destinations in Ha Long Bay.
By the afternoon of September 13th, according to the assessment of the Quang Ninh Department of Tourism, it is now possible to restore tourist itineraries and overnight stays in Ha Long Bay.
Many international tourists visited Ha Long Bay immediately after typhoon number 3.
The HL1, HL2, HL5 routes and the two overnight stops, Nha Lat and Sung Sot, have been inspected and scanned, ready to welcome visitors. The Department of Transport has also directed the Inland Waterway Port Authority to issue permits from the morning of September 13th for tourists visiting and staying in Ha Long Bay on these routes.
Currently, at Tuan Chau and Hon Gai International Passenger Ports, out of 359 tourist boats, restaurants, and accommodation facilities, 315 are ready to operate… Since Typhoon No. 3 passed, the total number of tourists visiting Ha Long Bay is 8,621, including 8,145 international tourists…
Mr. Nguyen Lam Nguyen, Deputy Director of the Quang Ninh Department of Tourism, stated: Quang Ninh province affirms its readiness to serve tourists as soon as the storm passes. Quang Ninh remains a safe, friendly, and attractive destination for domestic and international tourists.
"Currently, the Ha Long Bay Management Board is leading and coordinating with the Ha Long City People's Committee and relevant departments and agencies to simultaneously deploy forces to clean up Ha Long Bay. This will allow all tourist itineraries and overnight stays in Ha Long Bay to resume as before," Mr. Nguyen said.
Tourism in Quang Ninh will remain one of the pillars of the province's growth. Quang Ninh is determined to maintain its target of welcoming 19 million tourists in 2024, including 3.5 million international visitors.
Tourism revenue is projected to reach 46,460 billion VND, contributing to the local government's goal of achieving over 10% growth in 2024, continuing the streak of 10 consecutive years of double-digit annual growth.
