Grasping that need, travel companies have launched many new and attractive tour products, suitable for many customer segments. Among the prominent trends, exploring the capital Hanoi is attracting special attention from tourists.
Hanoi capital is the top destination
During the National Day holiday on September 2 this year, Hanoi is leading the list of most searched destinations by Vietnamese tourists, rising from 7th place in 2024 to No. 1. The capital is expected to welcome millions of domestic and international visitors, with the highlight being the activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of National Day - including a solemn celebration, military parade, parade and many special cultural events taking place throughout the city.
According to travel agencies, since early May 2025, the number of customers researching and booking tours for the September 2 holiday has begun to increase sharply. By early July, many customers had completed their tour bookings early to enjoy preferential prices and have time to prepare for the 4-day holiday.
Mr. Tran Tuan Huy, Head of Marketing Department of Hanoi Travel Company (Hanoitourist), said that the company is implementing a series of key tourism programs called "Hanoi Four Seasons", designed specifically for this holiday. Notable among them are the tours "Hanoi and the citadels", "Old Quarter - West Lake", "Hanoi and craft villages", and the Red River cruise by Thang Long Victory ship. In addition to the tour programs, Hanoitourist has also carefully prepared accommodation facilities under the system of Hanoi Tourism Corporation such as Metropole Hotel, Hoa Binh Hotel, Thang Long Opera Hotel... to serve customers who want to stay in a convenient location to watch the parade and marching activities. In particular, Hanoitourist staff have been updated with detailed information about the parade routes' schedules to advise on accommodation locations suitable to each customer's needs.
Data from online booking platform Agoda shows that the number of accommodation searches in Hanoi during this year's National Day holiday has increased 44 times compared to the same period in 2024. Many hotels located near event venues such as Hoan Kiem Lake, Hanoi's Old Quarter, Ba Dinh Square, etc. have been fully booked very early.
Located about 5 - 10 minutes walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, Thang Long Opera Hotel with more than 100 rooms recorded an increase in room bookings of 80 - 90% compared to the same period last year. Ms. Bui Dieu Linh, Hotel Director, shared: On the occasion of September 2 this year, the hotel prepared many small surprises for visitors, such as Hanoi gift trays with traditional specialties: banh goi, banh tom, pho cuon; National Day tea tray including banh cha, che lam, banh com... and afternoon tea sets were carefully prepared to bring memorable experiences to visitors when returning to the capital on this special occasion. In addition, the entire facade of the hotel will be decorated with the national flag. On the evening of September 2, the 8th floor of the hotel will organize services for guests to watch fireworks, accompanied by tea, water and snacks.
To serve the holiday, the Hanoi Department of Tourism has coordinated with businesses to deploy and soon release a set of tourism stimulus products including 80 typical products, divided into 8 main thematic groups: Heritage - cultural - historical tourism; eco-tourism - resort - nature tourism; culinary - shopping - urban experience tourism; art - night - creative tourism; tourism at the hotel system; transportation tourism (metro, waterway, aviation); agricultural - craft village - new rural tourism; regional linkage and inter-provincial and international connection tourism.
Mr. Tran Trung Hieu, Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism, shared that the set of 80 Hanoi tourism products is not only a friendly greeting to visitors but also demonstrates the spirit of innovation, creativity and responsibility of the Capital in building a sustainable, professional and modern tourism industry. The programs are all carefully selected, renewed and upgraded to promote the thousand-year cultural and historical values of Hanoi, while bringing visitors unique and profound experiences.
In particular, the "moving" experience package with 14 journeys involving tourist vehicles - from cyclos, electric cars, double-decker buses, to the Cat Linh - Ha Dong metro, inner-city trains and waterway trips along the Red River - promises to bring a multi-dimensional perspective of the capital. Each means of transport is a different way to feel the rhythm of Hanoi life, from ancient to modern, from quiet to vibrant.
In addition to staying in the capital, many tourists choose to take additional tours connecting Hanoi to neighboring localities such as Bac Ninh, Ha Long, Ninh Binh, Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang, etc. In addition, some travel companies have also recorded the return of overseas Vietnamese tourists bringing their families back to Vietnam on the occasion of National Day, combining cross-Vietnam tours or tours to third countries from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, creating the "2 destinations - 1 journey" travel trend.

Diverse foreign tours
The September 2nd holiday also takes place at the end of summer vacation, when students are preparing for the new school year. Taking advantage of this time, many tourists choose to "go abroad" to experience culture, shop, and relax in countries near Vietnam, with simple procedures and short travel time.
Mr. Do Duc Dung (Thanh Xuan ward, Hanoi) decided to take his children to Singapore during the September 2nd holiday. Regarding the idea of traveling abroad with a family of 2 children in secondary school, Mr. Duc Dung shared: "The children will have the opportunity to explore many new things, broaden their knowledge, become more mature, and also have an excited mentality to prepare for the new school year."
According to travel agencies, tours to Southeast Asia remain attractive thanks to reasonable prices, diverse services and stable quality. Destinations such as Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia (especially Bali) have flexible schedules, continuous departures, and many tours have been fully booked since early August 2025. In particular, tours to Thailand and Singapore recorded a 20-30% increase in the number of visitors compared to the same period last year, mostly family groups and young people.
Mid-range markets such as South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan are also popular with tourists thanks to favorable visa policies and the appeal of cool climates and natural scenery in late summer. Among them, cultural experience tours in Kyoto, Osaka (Japan), early autumn leaf viewing tours in Jeju Island (Korea), or "sale hunting" tours during the festival season in Taipei are chosen by many tourists.
In the higher-end segment, tours to Europe, Australia and distant destinations such as Dubai, Türkiye and Maldives also saw significant growth. Some direct flights (charters) to Europe during the holidays were added due to high demand. Many tourists took advantage of the holidays to add extra days off to extend their trips from 6 to 8 days.
Notably, according to surveys from online travel platforms, the average spending on foreign tours during the September 2 holiday this year increased by about 15-20% compared to 2024, reflecting the trend that tourists are willing to spend more for quality experiences, personalized services and all-inclusive itineraries from A to Z. All-inclusive tour packages with insurance, Vietnamese tour guides, high-standard meals and 24/7 support services are factors that many people are interested in.
In general, the foreign tourism market on September 2 this year is not only bustling in terms of the number of visitors but also clearly shows a change in taste - from traditional sightseeing tourism to high-end experiences, resorts combined with exploring local culture. This is also a positive signal for the growth of the Vietnamese tourism industry in both domestic and international markets.
