The flower and gift market for October 20 in Ho Chi Minh City is starting to get busy before the holiday.

At Ho Thi Ky flower market (Vuon Lai ward, Ho Chi Minh City), the largest wholesale flower market in the city, the atmosphere of preparation for October 20th has been bustling since the beginning of the week. Roses, sunflowers, baby flowers, and hydrangeas are continuously imported to serve wholesale customers who buy early.

Ms. Truong Hong Linh, representative of Diem Chi flower shop, Ho Thi Ky flower market, said that purchasing power increased from mid-October and was bustling until the main festival. This year's flower market is still very diverse, from domestic flowers to imported flowers, in which imported lines such as tulips, peonies, Ecuadorian roses, although expensive, still have special appeal in the high-end segment. Roses are the most popular, in which red roses, a symbol of love and beauty, sell very well.

"Purchasing power has increased sharply compared to normal days, but not as bustling as last year. However, this year the peak holiday falls on the weekend, so I think purchasing power will increase even more, especially in the evening. We also prepare maximum human resources to serve the people," Ms. Hong Linh shared.

According to traders, flower prices have increased this year due to transportation costs and erratic weather affecting supply. A trader at Ho Thi Ky flower market said that while the price of ground flowers and common types has only increased slightly by 5-10%, the price of high-end flowers has increased by 20-30%, and roses in particular can be 3 times higher than normal. Normally, a bouquet of 50 roses costs 150,000-200,000 VND, but now it has increased to 250,000-300,000 VND, and on October 20, it can be up to 600,000 VND for a bouquet of red roses.

"Usually, I buy these flowers for just a few hundred thousand, but now they cost more than a million. Tomorrow they will cost even more, it's a holiday. So I'm going to buy them early, and if I need anything else, I'll add them later," said a person buying flowers at Ho Thi Ky market.

Similarly, Ms. Mai Hanh Thuy (Dien Hong Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) also went to the market early to buy flowers to make gift baskets. Although the prices are high, the flowers are still diverse and fresh, suitable for display and gifting needs on October 20. According to Ms. Thuy, Phalaenopsis orchids have a more stable price, from 190,000 VND to 220,000 VND/branch, mainly serving customers who order in advance, corporate customers, and few individual customers.

Flower shops also recorded an increase in the number of customers. Dalat Hastfarm system recorded a 10-15% increase in purchasing power compared to the same period. Grasping the market trend, the unit started early to bring the most beautiful flower baskets to serve the market.

"This year, people tend to like pastel colors that are elegant, gentle, and delicate. For Vietnamese people, giving flowers to relatives on holidays like October 20 is a tradition, with a common spending level of 500,000 - 1,500,000 VND for a beautiful basket or bouquet. We have prepared many unique product lines of roses, peonies, tulips, etc., keeping prices stable, only increasing slightly, but at the same time also launching many promotions and shopping vouchers for customers," said Mr. Chung Minh Nhan, Area Manager of Dalat Hastfarm.

Many online flower shops in Ho Chi Minh City also recorded an increase in pre-orders, with customers choosing designs via websites or social media platforms, paying online and making delivery appointments on October 20 to avoid "out of stock" situations.

"Many customers no longer wait until the last minute like before, but tend to order early and schedule delivery times. This way, we can proactively sell the amount of goods, avoiding out-of-stock and price hikes," said the owner of a flower shop in Xuan Hoa ward (Ho Chi Minh City).

Wax flowers have stable prices and sell well during the October 20 holiday.

The trend of ordering flowers and buying gifts online during this holiday is also quite popular in Ho Chi Minh City. In addition to fresh flowers, many types of wax flowers, especially gift-flower combos; flowers - fruits; "green" gifts (natural cosmetics, essential oils, health care products, etc.) are favored by consumers because they are practical and still convey full meaning. Many online shops have recorded a sharp increase in purchasing power.

"I choose a few small, practical gifts to give my mother and sister on online shops, mainly from brands I'm familiar with, also focusing on product quality, suitable to the needs of the recipient, showing my sincerity," said Ms. Pham Minh Nhi, an office worker in Ben Thanh ward (Ho Chi Minh City).

In the high-end gift segment, many jewelry brands are also taking advantage of launching new collections to attract customers. For example, the PNJ brand has introduced many collections such as: Timeless Diamond (Timeless luxury beauty) or My First Diamond, with the message of honoring men with their own charisma, a source of inspiration for art. Along with many promotional activities, along with many incentive programs, this brand expects the market to flourish during this year's holiday season.

Although the October 20 market this year is not too explosive, the shift in shopping behavior shows that consumers increasingly pay attention to the emotional value and meaning of gifts rather than the form. A small bouquet of flowers, a handwritten card or a simple but delicate gift is still enough to send a message of love to the beloved women. In the bustling market flow, the greatest "gift" is still the sincere heart of the giver and meaningful wishes on important occasions.
