More than 13 years since the first Gepard 3.9 missile frigate entered service with the Vietnam Navy, the missile frigate fleet has participated in regular, unexpected, and important missions, including defense diplomacy missions.
The Gepard 3.9 missile frigate is a modern warship with great attack power. This is a warship that can operate independently or coordinate with other forces to destroy targets in the air and at sea.
The Gepard 3.9 missile frigates are tasked with searching for and destroying enemy submarines, surface ships, and aircraft. In addition, these ships are also capable of laying mines, protecting convoys, and providing fire support for landing forces.

Missile frigates 011 - Dinh Tien Hoang and 012 - Ly Thai To were built by Russia according to Vietnam's order. The ship is 102.4 m long, 13.7 m wide, has a total displacement of about 2,100 tons, a maximum speed of 29 nautical miles/hour, a range of about 5,000 nautical miles, can operate continuously at sea for 20 days and nights, and can withstand level 10 - 12 winds and waves.
The ship is equipped with attack weapons systems such as Uran-E (Kh35) anti-ship missiles capable of destroying enemy surface ships from a distance of up to 130 km; AK-176 multi-purpose naval gun system with a firing rate of 60-120 rounds/minute and AK-630 gun system with a firing rate of 4,500 - 5,000 rounds/minute that can destroy targets at sea, inshore and in the air; multi-purpose anti-aircraft gun-missile system (Palma); torpedo launchers, deck with landing pad for anti-submarine helicopters...

Adding more torpedoes helps improve the ship's combat capabilities, while enhancing the anti-submarine warfare capabilities of the Vietnam People's Navy.
Over the years, the missile frigate fleet has successfully completed many tasks such as: independently testing anti-ship missiles, organizing long-distance training, training in taking off and landing K-28 helicopters on ships when anchored and while the ship is underway, and conducting live-fire drills...
In addition, the Gepard 3.9-class missile frigate fleet also participates in defense diplomacy events in many countries in different seas such as India, China, South Korea, Japan...
