Recently, the social insurance agency in Hanoi received a complaint from Ms. T., residing in Cau Giay district, regarding a phone call from someone claiming to be an official from the State Treasury of Cau Giay district. This person informed Ms. T. that she was one of the few lucky recipients of a gift worth 20 million VND in cash for having participated in health insurance for many years.

However, to receive the gift, Ms. T. had to pay a fee of 1.1 million VND and would receive an additional two boxes of milk worth 900,000 VND. The scammer emphasized that Ms. T. only needed to pay the 1.1 million VND to the delivery person upon receiving the two boxes of milk and would not have to pay any other fees.
Regarding the lucky prize money, the suspect stated that the Director and accountant of the State Treasury of Cau Giay District would come to Ms. T's house to present it.
To ensure she wasn't being scammed, Ms. T. went to the Cau Giay District State Treasury office to meet the person directly, but the person avoided her, claiming they were "on leave."
When Ms. T. inquired further about the person's job position, the individual was evasive and only stated that they worked at the State Treasury's Insurance office in Cau Giay district.
Suspecting she had been scammed, Ms. T. went to the Social Insurance office in Cau Giay district to verify the information and learned that it was completely inaccurate.
Similarly, recently, several websites, Zalo, Facebook, and phone numbers have appeared impersonating the Binh Duong Provincial Social Insurance agency, officials, and employees, aiming to profit from and defraud people seeking assistance with social insurance, unemployment insurance, and health insurance policies.
Specifically, when accessing personal Facebook pages and searching with keywords like "Binh Duong Social Insurance" or "Binh Duong Social Insurance," one can easily find personal Facebook pages and public groups related to advising on and resolving needs for lump-sum social insurance benefits and other social insurance, unemployment insurance, and health insurance policies and regulations.
Notably, groups that provide support, liquidation, pledging, and buying/selling of social insurance books; consulting services, and handling various types of documents and paperwork that require people to pay "commission" fees, etc., operate openly, even listing contact phone numbers of these groups on Facebook, Zalo, etc., for people to contact them.
This is not the first time this has happened. Previously, the Vietnam Social Security has issued numerous warnings about the impersonation of social security officials, employees, and workers to defraud people. At the same time, the agency has sent documents requesting relevant authorities to promptly prevent and handle organizations and individuals engaging in violations, and to widely disseminate this information to the public and workers.
Through the above incident, the Vietnam Social Security continues to advise people to be more vigilant when carrying out administrative procedures related to social insurance and health insurance to prevent being exploited and scammed by malicious individuals.
In addition, people need to enhance their knowledge of laws and policies related to social insurance, unemployment insurance, and health insurance; and regularly monitor announcements from authorities regarding criminal methods and scams on mass media.
In case of any difficulties when carrying out administrative procedures of the Vietnamese social insurance sector, employees/individuals should contact the nearest social insurance agency directly or contact the Customer Support and Service Center via hotline: 1900.9068 or 0243.7899999 (during business hours) for assistance.
Currently, the Vietnam Social Security only has one verified Facebook Fanpage at: https://www.facebook.com/baohiemxahoi.gov.vn. Users should be aware of this to avoid fake pages.
