Strengthen the implementation of measures to prevent and control African swine fever.

African Swine Fever (ASF) is currently resurging and developing in a complex manner in several provinces and cities across the country, negatively impacting livestock farmers and the food supply. In response to this situation, Thanh Hoa province is focusing on implementing measures to prevent and control the disease from entering the area.

Strictly implement environmental sanitation, disinfection, and decontamination measures to eliminate dangerous pathogens.

Since the beginning of the year, over 410 outbreaks of African Swine Fever (ASF) have occurred in 40 provinces and cities nationwide, with the number of infected, dead, and culled pigs increasing by 53.74% compared to the same period last year. Currently, in provinces bordering Thanh Hoa, such as Son La, Hoa Binh, Ninh Binh, and Nghe An , the disease is developing very complicatedly and showing an increasing trend. Furthermore, Thanh Hoa province has a large pig population, approximately 1.3 million pigs, mainly concentrated in key pig-farming districts such as Nong Cong, Yen Dinh, Trieu Son, and Tho Xuan... with high farming density; small-scale farming still accounts for a high percentage.

In addition, controlling the transportation and trade of pigs and pork products, as well as supervising slaughtering, has become challenging. After a period of disease control, a sense of complacency and negligence has emerged among some livestock farmers.

Currently, the prolonged hot weather and complex disease transmission routes, coupled with the lack of a cure, mean that the risk of disease outbreaks, recurrences, and harm in our province is very high...

Given this reality, disease prevention and control efforts are facing higher demands, requiring the agricultural sector, localities, and livestock farmers to avoid complacency and negligence. Specifically, localities need to focus on seriously implementing several solutions such as: strictly managing the increase and restocking of pigs to ensure biosafety conditions; concentrating resources on disease surveillance down to the village level; strictly implementing environmental sanitation, disinfection, and decontamination; and applying biosafety measures in livestock farming...

In addition, focus on reviewing and organizing supplementary vaccination against dangerous infectious diseases in pigs; especially in localities with a high risk of disease outbreaks, ensuring that the vaccination rate reaches over 80% of the total herd at the time of vaccination.

At the same time, allocate funds to prepare sufficient means, supplies, equipment, disinfectants, lime powder, vaccines, etc., to respond promptly and contain outbreaks as soon as they occur within a limited area.

The Provincial Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine is intensifying efforts to organize the sampling and monitoring of African Swine Fever (ASF) to promptly detect and warn of disease outbreaks in the province. They are also establishing rapid response teams to direct and guide the decisive handling of outbreaks as soon as they appear, preventing widespread transmission; strictly controlling the transportation and trading of pigs and pig products into the province; and promptly detecting and severely punishing violations in the trading and transportation of pigs that do not comply with regulations.
