On May 15, at the 12th ASEAN-New Zealand Joint Cooperation Committee (ANZJCC) meeting held at the ASEAN Secretariat, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening and deepening the ASEAN-New Zealand Strategic Partnership.

This is an annual Ambassador-level meeting to review and discuss measures to promote the implementation of ASEAN-New Zealand cooperation projects and activities. Ambassador Ton Thi Ngoc Huong, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to ASEAN, attended the meeting.

At the meeting, ASEAN countries highly appreciated New Zealand's commitment, contributions and support in recent years, demonstrated through the results achieved in implementing cooperation activities, of which 65 out of 69 action lines (equivalent to 94%) have been implemented according to the 4 cooperation themes of the ASEAN-New Zealand Action Plan 2021-2025, including peace, prosperity, people and planet.

ASEAN countries welcomed New Zealand's support for the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) and looked forward to concrete activities to enhance practical cooperation in line with the ASEAN-New Zealand Joint Statement on AOIP Cooperation to be adopted in 2023, to strengthen the regional architecture with ASEAN at the centre.

Appreciating the new developments in the relationship between the two sides, New Zealand affirmed that its new Government will continue to attach importance to relations with ASEAN; commit to supporting ASEAN's central role in the region, and actively participate in ASEAN-led regional mechanisms.

At the same time, it affirmed that it will coordinate with ASEAN to develop a new Action Plan for the period 2026-2030 in line with ASEAN Vision 2045, as well as focus on strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest, especially areas where New Zealand has strengths and ASEAN also prioritizes such as smart agriculture, digital transformation, climate change response, technology using low-carbon resources, etc.

Appreciating the positive progress in ASEAN-New Zealand cooperation over the past nearly 50 years, Ambassador Ton Thi Ngoc Huong highly appreciated New Zealand's steadfast commitments in supporting ASEAN's central role.

Ambassador Ton Thi Ngoc Huong hopes that ASEAN and New Zealand will have more practical activities to raise awareness among people and businesses on both sides to make good use of business cooperation opportunities between the two sides.

Thanking Brunei for successfully fulfilling its role as the current coordinator of ASEAN-New Zealand relations, the Ambassador affirmed that as the next coordinator, Vietnam is ready to cooperate with New Zealand to further strengthen bilateral relations, especially on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-New Zealand relations.
