On the evening of January 2nd, the Vietnamese national team won 2-1 against the Thai national team in the first leg of the 2024 ASEAN Cup final at Viet Tri Stadium.
As soon as the final whistle blew, thousands of Da Nang residents poured into the streets to celebrate. Central city streets such as Le Duan, Dien Bien Phu, and Nguyen Van Linh became congested with traffic.
According to observations, during this "street racing" event, traffic congestion at key intersections such as the Dragon Bridge area and Nguyen Van Linh Street has significantly decreased compared to previous occasions. Most people complied strictly with traffic light signals.
At several key intersections and five-way junctions, traffic police and public order police have been deployed to ensure security.
Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung (residing in Hai Chau district) said that in the past, every time there was a storm, traffic jams would be severe. If the Law on Traffic Safety and Order were strictly followed, traffic congestion would be significantly reduced, and people and law enforcement would have less trouble.
“I’m very happy that the Vietnamese team won, and even happier that there wasn’t traffic congestion like in previous celebrations. If the Vietnamese team had won the championship, I think there would have been more people on the streets. However, the fact that everyone strictly followed traffic laws this time is a positive sign, moving towards a more civilized way of celebrating,” said Hung.

Amidst the vibrant atmosphere, many people carried national flags, and some even brought pots, pans, and cooking utensils to celebrate. The sound of horns and shouts of "Vietnam!" created a lively and joyful atmosphere.
Mr. Nguyen Si (residing in Lien Chieu district) and his friends went out to celebrate the victory of the Vietnamese national team, and they did not forget to strictly obey traffic lights to avoid being fined.
According to Mr. Si, with the new regulations increasing penalties, people will comply more strictly with the Law on Road Traffic Safety.
