Building trust and motivation for poor students to study hard

Building confidence and motivation for underprivileged but studious students.

The Lam Son Science and Technology Fund, formerly the Thanh Hoa Provincial Education Promotion Fund, is directly managed by the Provincial Education Promotion Association. Its operational goal is to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds to excel in their studies; and to reward teachers, students, and university students who achieve outstanding results in teaching and learning. According to a representative of the Provincial Education Promotion Association, from its early years of operation under the name Thanh Hoa Provincial Education Promotion Fund, through various means such as lottery sales and fundraising from entrepreneurs, businesses, and philanthropists inside and outside the province, the Provincial Education Promotion Association has built up over 1 billion VND in funds. By the end of 2011, this figure had increased to 2.2 billion VND. Notably, in 2012, with the support of provincial leaders and leaders of several central government departments who are native to Thanh Hoa, the Provincial Education Promotion Association mobilized over 20 billion VND in funds from businesses inside and outside the province. Based on the results achieved, on January 17, 2013, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 284/QD-UBND establishing the Lam Son Science and Technology Fund. The establishment of the Lam Son Science and Technology Fund marked a new stage of development as well as a movement to build scholarship funds throughout the localities, regions, and areas of the province.

The success of the Lam Son Science and Technology Fund stems from its early days of gathering the strength of many organizations, individuals, and businesses inside and outside the province to participate in science and technology activities, such as: Viettel Military Industrial and Telecommunications Group, ASEAN Trading Joint Stock Company, Central Region Investment, Construction and Trading Group, Tien Nong Agricultural and Industrial Corporation, etc. From there, it has built a "bridge of compassion" to disadvantaged students throughout the province, empowering them on their path to conquering human knowledge. Currently, the Lam Son Science and Technology Fund has reached 26 billion VND. Under the direct management of the Provincial Association for the Promotion of Learning, the Lam Son Science and Technology Fund annually awards scholarships to over 2,000 primary, secondary, and high school students, and rewards students who win prizes in national and international Olympiad competitions with large sums of money; it also rewards outstanding administrators and teachers who excel in promoting learning with a total amount exceeding 2 billion VND. According to statistics from the Provincial Association for the Promotion of Learning, to date, over 30,000 high school students have received awards and scholarships, along with thousands of outstanding administrators, teachers, and many national and international award-winning students.

Each student receiving a scholarship from the Lam Son Science and Technology Fund has a unique story and circumstances. For example, Nguyen Nhu Thanh Dat from Hac Thanh ward lost his father in a traffic accident, and his mother left when he was young. He currently lives with his elderly grandparents, who are frequently ill and have no income. Similarly, Pham Van Sang from Thach Lap commune is an orphan, his mother is often ill, and he lives with his grandparents in a poor household facing particularly difficult circumstances. Despite their challenging family situations, these students are shining examples of overcoming adversity with determination to acquire knowledge through willpower and perseverance, to build a successful life and contribute to their homeland. For them, attending school is a blessing because education is always linked to a bright future, not only for themselves but also for their loved ones, families, and hometown. The scholarships, imbued with profound meaning and compassion, from the Lam Son Science and Technology Fund have always been a great source of confidence and motivation, helping students to take more confident steps on their path to acquiring knowledge and realizing their dreams.

Based on its objectives, significance, and practical and effective activities, the Lam Son Science and Technology Fund has received the support and trust of all levels of the people and the business community inside and outside the province, with positive contributions to the fund. Through this, it continues to encourage and motivate students, especially children from poor households, to strive harder in their studies and training for a better future, and for the goal of building a stronger and more prosperous homeland and country.
