For Ms. Ha Thi Tuyet (born in 1985), residing in Liem Cong Tay village, Hien Thanh commune, Vinh Linh district, the last days of June 2025 were a memorable time. For the first time, she had the opportunity to participate in the "Run with People with Disabilities 2025" event, along with over 100 other disabled athletes in the province, organized by the Association of People with Disabilities, the Association of Disabled People, and the Association for the Protection of Children and the Rights of the Disabled in the province, in collaboration with non- governmental organizations.
The event was held with the aim of increasing opportunities and improving the status of people with disabilities; while also contributing to removing barriers and promoting the participation of people with disabilities in sports and social activities, so that no one is left behind.
Reportedly, this was the third time the event had been held nationwide and the second time in Quang Tri province . Eagerly preparing for this major event for people with disabilities, Ms. Tuyet and the athletes from Vinh Linh district traveled to Dong Ha City early that morning. At that time, the Palm Oil Park was already crowded with athletes waiting for the event to begin. After the signal, the race officially started. Under the June summer sun, the athletes raced towards the finish line amidst the cheers and encouragement of the organizers and spectators. The heat from the race track, combined with the enthusiasm and passion of the participants, created an impressive atmosphere.
The successful event that day left Ms. Tuyet with indescribable joy. For her, it was not only a playground that gave her the opportunity to interact and meet people with disabilities from many different regions, but also provided motivation for herself and other athletes to be confident and integrate into the community. Speaking to the reporter, the petite woman shared that since childhood, she had lived with feelings of inferiority due to the ridicule of those around her because she had lost an arm.
However, later, thanks to the timely attention of the associations at all levels, especially participating in many beneficial activities organized and co-organized by the Association of People with Disabilities, the Association of Disabled People, and the Association for the Protection of Children and the Rights of the Disabled in the province, she gradually regained her confidence in life. “The activities for people with disabilities, such as the 'Running with People with Disabilities' event, help us to be happy and active; to boldly express our thoughts and abilities, things that were once limited by self-doubt. Through these activities, we learn to overcome our inferiority complex, live more positively, and be more confident on the journey ahead,” Ms. Tuyet said.
According to information from the Association of People with Disabilities, Victims of Agent Orange, and the Committee for the Protection of Children and the Rights of People with Disabilities in Quang Tri province, the province currently has 15,600 people with disabilities and 6,865 victims of Agent Orange. To realize the right of people with disabilities to participate in and enjoy the cultural and spiritual life of people with disabilities, in recent years, in addition to activities supporting the improvement of their material lives and living conditions, the associations at all levels in the province have made efforts to organize and coordinate activities, creating beneficial playgrounds, thereby encouraging the spirit of people with disabilities, helping them to be confident and integrate into the community.
Besides the recently held Run with People with Disabilities event, the Association of People with Disabilities, the Association of Disabled People, and the Association for the Protection of Children and the Disabled in Quang Tri province also organized a cultural and artistic competition with the theme "Songs from the Heart," the first Quang Tri Provincial Arts and Culture Competition for People with Disabilities in 2024 with the theme "Hearts of Aspiration," and a painting competition about people with disabilities... Each activity and program attracted the participation and enthusiastic response of a large number of disabled members.
Chairman of the Association of People with Disabilities, People with Disabilities, and Children with Disabilities in Thai Vinh Lieu province affirmed that, in recent times, besides the province's special attention to people with disabilities with specific, timely, and practical policies, the Provincial Association has also regularly connected and created beneficial playgrounds, thereby motivating, encouraging, and supporting people with disabilities to have equal opportunities, develop their abilities, rise up, integrate, and contribute to society. From these playgrounds, many people with disabilities have become shining examples, inspiring others with their resilience in life.
“The Association of People with Disabilities, the Association of Disabled People, and the Association for the Protection of Children and the Rights of People with Disabilities in the province are always proud to have created motivation for their members to strive for success. This is clear evidence that people with disabilities can overcome all barriers and live meaningful lives. In the future, we will continue to expand these platforms and provide more opportunities for people with disabilities to develop their talents and intelligence,” Mr. Lieu said.
