On July 22nd, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center organized an online training course on "Sustainable Rice Cultivation Processes". More than 100 people, cooperatives, and rice-producing farms from key areas of the province, including Tuy Phong, Bac Binh, Ham Thuan Bac, Tanh Linh, Duc Linh, and community agricultural extension groups, participated via video link. The lecturer was Professor Nguyen Bao Ve, former Head of the Faculty of Agriculture , Can Tho University.
During the training course, the instructors shared with the participants sustainable rice farming practices. This included emphasizing the "1 must, 5 reductions" rice farming method; the alternating wet and dry method; and rice farming that reduces emissions and aims to obtain carbon credits.
In addition, the training course also discussed related content and orientations for sustainable rice cultivation. It is known that the province currently has 5 key rice-growing districts: Tuy Phong, Bac Binh, Ham Thuan Bac, Duc Linh, and Tanh Linh, with an area of over 120,000 hectares of commercial rice each year.
Over the past period, the Agricultural Extension Center has organized many training courses for community agricultural extension groups on digital transformation; the role of community agricultural extension groups in building new rural areas; techniques for caring for crops and livestock, etc. This aims to implement the Provincial People's Committee's plan on developing high-quality commercial rice production areas in the province by 2025.
According to the Binh Thuan Agricultural Extension Center, through this training course, the unit will transfer scientific and technological advancements to cooperatives and rice-growing households. The motto is to use community agricultural extension groups as the core to train and disseminate this knowledge to businesses, cooperatives, and rice-growing households in the province. The aim is to gradually shift from traditional direct training methods to the application of digital technology and digital transformation, creating opportunities for more households to access and participate anytime, anywhere, and reducing costs.
