With its exquisite design and meaningful message, the artistic cake, set in the Smurf Village and themed "Two Sides of Life," has just won over the judges of The Vietnam Bakery Cup 2024 with a perfect score of 100 points.
The artistic cakes displayed in the Smurf Village made a strong impression.
The Vietnam Bakery Cup 2024, an international culinary competition held in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City from December 11th, attracted over 500 baking professionals from around the world , including Vietnam, China, South Korea, Taiwan, and Malaysia. As the first international-standard baking competition in Vietnam, The Vietnam Bakery Cup 2024 awards were judged according to the WorldChefs (World Chefs Association) scoring system. This elevated the competition and created new and exciting challenges for the participants. The judging panel consisted of experienced Vietnamese and international judges who had previously judged competitions both domestically and internationally.

The organizers expect the competition to provide talented Vietnamese chefs with opportunities for international exchange, sharing experiences and professional skills. In particular, they hope it will help build a strong and sustainable ecosystem for the Vietnamese pastry industry in the future, reaching international standards and stimulating Vietnamese culinary tourism .
Throughout the 23 competition categories over four days, from December 11-14, 2024, more than 200 unique cake creations, including those in the live competition and exhibition categories, attracted the attention of the public and experts. Among them, the work "Two Sides of Life" by a Vietnamese author stood out, entering the Sugar/Maripan Art Cake category. With its meaningful story, tight composition, exquisite design, and harmonious colors, the work excellently earned a perfect score of 100 from the judging panel.

The artwork is set in the Smurf Village from the famous French and Belgian comic book series – a peaceful world with blue skies, lush greenery, and adorable mushroom houses. However, behind this peaceful facade lies a harsh reality of life – a malevolent lurking danger, represented by the character of Gargamel. The story is depicted on a 50x50cm cake using a unique combination of baking materials such as fondant, isomalt sugar, and rice paper.

Ms. Le Kieu Oanh, Vice President of the Vietnam Baking Association, expressed her pride that the Vietnamese contestant's work achieved a perfect score of 100 points – a rare achievement in international and continental baking competitions. She emphasized that, in all categories of the competition, this was the only work to receive such a perfect score. To achieve this score, the work had to fully meet the criteria regarding a meaningful story, creative presentation, and sophisticated technique.
"I have to call it a perfect work of art in cake making, a beautiful picture from the story, the composition to the colors. Through the skillful hands of the artist, a vivid story has been recreated through the delicate lines on the cake," Ms. Oanh shared.
The bakery has gained renown and won numerous prestigious awards.
