Ho Chi Minh City's 10th grade valedictorian failed the qualifying round of the gifted student exam

According to the results of the 10th grade exam in Ho Chi Minh City announced on the morning of June 20, candidate Vu Thi Ngoc Bich (student of Le Anh Xuan Secondary School, Tan Phu District) achieved the highest score, in 3 subjects: Math 10 points; English 10 points and Literature 9.25 points. Ngoc Bich's total score was 29.25 points.

Responding to VTC News, Ngoc Bich said: " When I checked my score, I had to check it several times to make sure I didn't enter the wrong registration number. It wasn't until the third time that I believed it was true."

According to Ngoc Bich, although she was an excellent student for 9 years, there was a time when she failed. That was the qualifying round for excellent students in English at the district and city levels.

"I failed the qualifying round. At that time, I felt doubtful about myself and a bit ashamed. Luckily, my family encouraged me so I overcame that "shock" and continued to study better," Ngoc Bich said.

The female student revealed that she is a big fan of male singer Son Tung M-TP. Ngoc Bich learned from her idol the determination to not be afraid of difficulties and hardships.

“To be successful like today, singer Son Tung M-TP has gone through many difficulties, even causing controversy. Therefore, the male singer's path to conquering the audience is always a great inspiration to help me study better. To have a positive spirit and energy, I always balance between studying and playing. When studying is stressful and pressured, I often listen and sing along to my idol's music," Ngoc Bich said.

Ngoc Bich said that since she knew her exam results, she has received a lot of compliments and congratulations from family, relatives, friends, teachers and even people she doesn't know.

In the entrance exam to grade 10 of public schools, Bich wished to enter the English specialized class and the non-specialized class of Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted and Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted. However, her specialized subject results were not good, so Bich will choose to study in the non-specialized class of the school. The female student is not too concerned about this because, according to her, English ability can be improved throughout the learning process, it is not necessary to enter the specialized class.

Of the three subjects, Math and Literature are not Bich's strengths, so during the exam preparation process, she closely followed the school curriculum and referred to additional lectures online.

Talking more about the Literature exam with 9.25 points (the highest score for this subject in this year's exam), Bich said she wrote 9 pages of paper, choosing the work "Little Spring" to analyze about love for the homeland.

In addition to the thematic analysis, I also related my desire to contribute and small things that can help society. Bich thinks this is a factor to get 9.25 points.

Ms. Tran Thi Hau, Ngoc Bich's homeroom teacher, said she was not too surprised by her student's results. Commenting further on Bich, Ms. Hau assessed that Bich was careful and very focused in her studies.

“Ngoc Bich strives and improves every day. She knows how to balance between studying and playing, actively participating in class activities without affecting her academic results, ” said Ms. Hau.

Mr. Mai Thanh Binh, Principal of Le Anh Xuan Secondary School, was very impressed with this female student's Literature lessons. Mr. Binh said that Bich is a very special student because her way of learning Literature lessons is always different.

“I highly appreciate Bich’s efforts. The school congratulates her and her family and will hold a ceremony to honor students with high achievements in the recent exam ,” Mr. Binh shared.
