Leader of the team that 'revives' polluted rivers receives the 2024 Youth Living Well Award

TPO – Nguyen Luong Ngoc (born in 1996) – Leader of the Green Saigon group has gathered, led and together with volunteers – young hearts full of enthusiasm and love for the environment – ​​has “revived” polluted “black spots” of canals and rivers, with the desire to have a green city, a green – clean – beautiful environment.

Along with the speed of urbanization, the problem of environmental pollution is increasing in big cities. When seeing the city's canals and rivers black and seriously polluted, Nguyen Luong Ngoc (nickname Shin) "couldn't sit still", and then decided to establish (December 5, 2022) and lead Saigon Xanh with the desire to create positive changes.

“They are students, tech drivers, freelance workers, real estate agents… full of enthusiasm, not afraid of hardship or difficulty. With that spirit, we start from small actions of picking up trash and cleaning up trash to bring back the “breath” of seriously polluted canals and rivers,” Ngoc said.

Ngoc and the team "reviving" polluted rivers are contributing to creating a new look for the city.

Up to now, the Club has cleaned 200 times, corresponding to 200 canals, ditches, and constructions in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces such as: An Phu Dong Iron Bridge (Go Vap District); Lang Canal (Binh Thanh District); Cau Son Canal (Binh Thanh District)... In addition, Saigon Xanh also installed constructions such as 9 trash barrier buoys and 1 automatic trash collection machine.

“One of the most memorable campaigns was probably the first one in Ho Chi Minh City, when we collected tons of trash from the canals. For the first time, I saw the unanimous participation of many people and volunteers. This was the motivation for me to continue other campaigns, not only in the city but also expanding to neighboring provinces,” said the leader of the Saigon Xanh team.

According to Ngoc, the biggest challenges during operations often come from organization, logistics, and safety for volunteers in large-scale campaigns. Therefore, the group has overcome them by cooperating with local authorities to have timely support from material resources...

Nguyen Luong Ngoc's outstanding achievements and awards:

– Certificate of Merit from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union for outstanding achievements in the work of the Union and youth movements for the 2019-2024 term;

– Certificate of Merit from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union for outstanding achievements in volunteer activities for the community in 2023;

– Certificate of Merit from the Central Youth Union for positive achievements in environmental protection work in the city in 2022;

– Received the 2024 Youth Living Well Award.

In addition to the main activities, Ngoc and the members of Saigon Xanh always actively participate in the Youth Union and movement activities at the unit, such as organizing more than 200 garbage collection campaigns in the area; organizing 3 large-scale garbage collection campaigns in neighboring provinces: Vung Tau, Tien Giang, Binh Duong .

In addition, Ngoc's group also scraped off illegal billboards on 28 walls and 58 electric poles in Binh Thanh district; awarded 20 scholarships to students in Thanh An island commune, Can Gio district, Ho Chi Minh City; and organized the program "Joy for Children"...

Receiving the Beautiful Youth Award this year, Nguyen Luong Ngoc felt very honored and proud. “For me, to receive this title, I would like to thank the volunteers of Saigon Xanh for writing a beautiful life journey, a green life journey. Therefore, this title is not only given to me, but also to all the volunteers of Saigon Xanh,” Ngoc said.

In the future, Ngoc hopes to expand Saigon Xanh in scale and apply modern technological equipment,educate the community about nature protection and cooperate with other organizations to create a greater impact and spread.

The “Beautiful Youth” Award is a noble award organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union and TCP Vietnam Company Limited to honor outstanding young people with jobs, noble and humane actions, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity, mutual love, and sharing difficulties with the community and society.
