During the meeting, the two sides spent time discussing issues related to trade cooperation and sustainable energy development in Vietnam. Mr. Marchel Gerrmann highly appreciated the economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two sides, and expressed his support for Vietnam's green energy transition program. The Netherlands is ready to support, share, and cooperate with Vietnam in areas where the Netherlands has expertise.
On behalf of the Ministry of Industry and Trade , Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long welcomed the close cooperation between Vietnam and the Netherlands in many fields, including those under the Ministry's purview such as trade, green energy transition, circular economy, and logistics. The Deputy Minister affirmed that the Netherlands is an important trading partner of Vietnam and proposed that in the future, the two sides will take more concrete and effective steps in cooperation in areas where there is already a good foundation for collaboration.
At the end of the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long and the Ambassador for Business and Development Cooperation both agreed that the two sides would actively support and coordinate in implementing cooperation activities to promote bilateral trade and explore possibilities for cooperation in energy transition projects.
According to Vietnamese Customs data, in the first nine months of 2024, Vietnam exported over US$9.45 billion to the Netherlands, an increase of 27.5% compared to the same period in 2023 (ranking number 1 in terms of import value from Vietnam to the EU). Regarding imports, in the first nine months of 2024, Vietnam imported over US$567.4 million, an increase of 20.2% compared to the same period in 2023. Total two-way trade turnover in the first nine months of 2024 reached over US$10.02 billion, an increase of 27.1% compared to the same period in 2023. As of September 2024, the Netherlands ranked 8th with 448 projects and $14.56 billion among 149 countries and territories investing directly in Vietnam, leading among EU countries currently investing in Vietnam. The sectors receiving the most investment are: agriculture , industry and food and beverage processing. |
