Reporting to the Deputy Minister, Vice Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities Affairs Nong Thi Ha and the delegation at the working session, Ms. Luc Thuy Hang – Principal of Viet Bac High School for Ethnic Minorities – stated: Currently, the school has a total of 236 staff, teachers, and employees. Of these, 158 are teachers, and 78 are staff and employees; 65 of the teachers and staff are from ethnic minority groups. In terms of educational qualifications, there are 121 Master's degree holders and 70 Bachelor's degree holders. The teaching staff meets or exceeds the standard educational qualifications and possesses extensive experience in educating and training students in the ethnic minority boarding school system.
Over the past period, the school has always been at the forefront of activities to help ethnic minority students achieve "Intellectual equality for equality among ethnic groups"; affirming its role and position as a multi-system boarding school for ethnic minorities, training and nurturing talented and high-quality ethnic minority students, especially in improving foreign language and information technology skills, meeting the increasingly strong demands of digital transformation in the northern mountainous provinces in the current period.
In recent years, 100% of students in the ethnic minority boarding school have passed their graduation exams, and 100% of them have been admitted to universities, colleges, and preparatory universities, with many achieving university entrance exam scores of 27 points or higher. Each year, 15 to 20 students win national-level academic awards and gold medals in national and international science and technology research competitions. In the 2023-2024 academic year, the school had 19 national-level outstanding students (including 2 first prizes), and 2 scientific research projects in South Korea won gold medals.
The school prioritizes improving the professional skills and political theory knowledge of its staff, teachers, and employees. In the 2023-2024 academic year, two teachers pursued postgraduate studies; two teachers were sent to attend advanced political theory courses. The school also ensured that its management staff and teachers fully participated in training courses organized by the Committee for Ethnic Minorities, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Provincial People's Committee, and relevant departments and agencies.
The school excels in its mission of educating students in preserving and promoting national cultural identity and fostering unity among ethnic groups. It also effectively cares for the well-being of students, staff, and teachers.
During the meeting, representatives from several departments also discussed and provided feedback on education and training, particularly on preparations for the 2024-2025 school year and the school's infrastructure.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister and Vice Chairman Nong Thi Ha acknowledged and highly appreciated the achievements of the school in the past period, and at the same time requested the school to continue to uphold its traditions and maintain its title as a top ethnic minority school in Thai Nguyen province.
Regarding facilities and equipment, we request that the school continue to coordinate with relevant functional units to review and reassess the necessary items in order to develop a project for investing in the renovation, upgrading, and repair of the infrastructure of Viet Bac Highland High School under the National Target Program 1719.
Taking into account the feedback from Deputy Minister and Vice Chairman Nong Thi Ha and the members of the working group, teacher Luc Thuy Hang promised that the school would seriously implement the suggestions and strive to achieve many outstanding results in the future.
Viet Bac Highland High School is located in Quyet Thang Commune, Thai Nguyen City, with an area of 59,924.8 m2. Currently, the school has nearly 3,000 students from 32 ethnic groups from 21 provinces studying at the school in two training systems: Ethnic Minority Boarding High School and Ethnic Minority University Preparatory Program.
The school was founded in 1957 under the name Viet Bac Autonomous Region Highland Children's School. The school had the honor of welcoming President Ho Chi Minh three times and received numerous prestigious titles and awards from the Party and State. In 2014, the school was awarded the title of Heroic Labor Collective.
Since its establishment, the school has trained more than 60,000 students from 32 ethnic minority groups in 21 mountainous provinces from Quang Binh northward, including over 600 students from very small ethnic minority groups such as: Ngai, Lu, Mang, Sila, Clao, La Chi, La Hu, Cong, Pu Peo, Bo Y… Many of them have become engineers, doctors, scientists, and leading officials working at the central and local levels, contributing to the construction of the country and protecting the remote border and island regions of the Fatherland.
