Raising awareness to combat child marriage and consanguineous marriage.

On December 10th, the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions, in coordination with the Department of Justice and the Department of Health, organized a conference to enhance the capacity of commune-level legal educators in 2025 on reducing child marriage and consanguineous marriage in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

At the conference, delegates were briefed on the contents of the Law on Marriage and Family; the Law on Gender Equality, along with legal regulations related to child marriage and consanguineous marriage; the harmful effects of child marriage and consanguineous marriage; and knowledge and skills in communication and counseling to reduce child marriage and consanguineous marriage.

According to reports from relevant agencies, in 2025, Thai Nguyen province had 25 cases of child marriage and 3 cases of consanguineous marriage. This situation persists due to insufficient public awareness and outdated customs and traditions, leading to serious consequences for the health of future generations and the quality of the population.

The conference was organized to enhance the capacity, legal knowledge, and communication, advocacy, and legal counseling skills regarding marriage, population, and family for local legal reporters and communicators. This aims to create consensus within the community to reduce child marriage and consanguineous marriage, contributing to improving the quality of the population and human resources.
