Prime Minister: Bring Long Thanh International Airport into operation on schedule.

On the afternoon of December 14th, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh inspected, urged, and encouraged the construction forces at the Long Thanh International Airport construction site to accelerate progress in order to operate and welcome the first flight on December 19th and put it into commercial operation in the first half of 2026, in accordance with the conclusions of General Secretary To Lam when inspecting Long Thanh International Airport a month ago.

Long Thanh International Airport is being built on an area of ​​over 5,000 hectares in Long Thanh commune, Dong Nai province. The project has an estimated total investment of over 16 billion USD, divided into 3 phases. Phase 1, with an investment of over 5.4 billion USD, has a capacity of 25 million passengers per year and 1.2 million tons of cargo per year; it comprises 4 component projects.

Inspecting and encouraging the forces working on the construction site, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh praised and thanked the units and contractors, especially the more than 15,000 experts, engineers, and workers who are working day and night with 3,000 machines and equipment to accelerate progress in order to operate and welcome the first flight on December 19th and bring Long Thanh International Airport into commercial operation in the first half of 2026.

The Prime Minister expressed his delight that Component Project 1 (construction of government agency headquarters) has been largely completed, and is continuing with the final stages of completion to ensure it is finished before December 19th. In addition, Component Project 2 (air traffic management facilities), including items such as the air traffic control tower, is being completed and equipment is being installed to ensure flight operations are ready by December 19th and completed synchronously with the overall project schedule.

Emphasizing the crucial importance of component project 3 (essential works serving airport operations), the Prime Minister noted that the project comprises 15 bidding packages, but only 3 have been completed, with 12 still under construction. Therefore, the Prime Minister requested continued efforts to accelerate the synchronized implementation of construction and completion of all items, especially the runway, connecting transportation routes, passenger terminal, taxiways, and aprons... ensuring that construction is essentially completed to allow for flights to commence on December 19th.

The Prime Minister also inspected and expressed satisfaction that component project 4 (ground-based service facilities) is being actively implemented by investors to serve phase 1 operations, striving to complete the construction basically before December 19th; ensuring synchronized operation according to the overall project schedule.

* After inspecting the construction site, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh worked with ministries, agencies, and units to review the tasks for the construction of Long Thanh International Airport as directed by General Secretary To Lam a month ago, aiming to welcome the first flight on December 19th and put it into commercial operation in the first half of 2026.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister commended the units for their high level of focus on the project. Items and works are changing daily, weekly, and monthly. In particular, the passenger terminal – the "heart" of the airport – and the air traffic control tower – the "brain" of the airport – are nearing completion; the runway – the core infrastructure of the airport – is illuminated; electricity and water supply are adequate and stable. Fuel stations and communication lines are functioning smoothly; internal airport connecting roads are being constructed urgently; and the environmental landscaping, parking areas, and lawns are being completed…

With the goal of welcoming the first flight on December 19th and commencing commercial operations in the first half of 2026, the Prime Minister requested that the units continue to organize construction in "3 shifts, 4 teams," "working during the day is not enough, so we must take advantage of working at night and on holidays" to accelerate progress and ensure quality, safety, hygiene, and environmental landscape of Long Thanh International Airport.

Along with the forces of the units and contractors, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested the military, especially Military Region 7 and units in the area, to provide support to the construction units; and the police force to increase its presence to ensure security and order throughout the construction site.

The Prime Minister requested a review and implementation of tasks closely following the conclusions of General Secretary To Lam during his visit and inspection of the Long Thanh Airport project a month ago, as well as recent conclusions and directives from the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Ministers regarding the construction of Long Thanh International Airport and the development of an aviation economic center and airport city in Long Thanh, Dong Nai.

The Prime Minister commended and highly appreciated the project, assigning specific tasks to each ministry, sector, locality, and enterprise in the implementation of Long Thanh International Airport in the coming period. The Prime Minister expressed confidence that with the efforts and determination of all stakeholders, and with the motto "already determined, be even more determined; already striving, strive even harder; already making efforts, strive even more; already achieving good results, make them even better," the Long Thanh International Airport will be completed to international standards, as well as the infrastructure, transportation connections, and aviation economic development in Dong Nai, as directed by General Secretary To Lam.

* Also on the afternoon of December 14th, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh inspected the progress of the transportation routes connecting to Long Thanh International Airport.

Inspecting the construction of the interchange connecting Long Thanh Airport with the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway; and the interchange between the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway and the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway, the Prime Minister commended the investors and contractors for their tireless efforts in accelerating the progress of the projects.

The Prime Minister emphasized that on December 19th, Long Thanh International Airport will welcome its first flight and officially begin commercial operations in the first half of 2026. Therefore, relevant units need to mobilize resources and equipment, organize construction, and accelerate the progress of projects to ensure synchronized operation and maximize the effectiveness of transportation routes connecting to Long Thanh Airport.

Along with routes T1, T2, Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway; Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway; Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, National Highway 51, Provincial Road 25C (25B), and Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3; research is being conducted on the construction of a transportation route, urban railway, connecting Long Thanh Airport with the center of Ho Chi Minh City and Tan Son Nhat Airport, creating an inter-regional transportation corridor, aiming to meet future development requirements.
