Vietnam is one of the top strategic partners in India's "Act East" policy.
At the meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated India on its achievements under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, especially its impressive economic growth, science and technology reaching increasingly high levels; and India's role and position being increasingly respected in the region and the world.

Affirming that Vietnam and India share many similar strategic interests, the Prime Minister suggested that the two sides continue to strengthen multifaceted cooperation, prioritizing the promotion of political and diplomatic relations, cooperation in areas of mutual interest such as trade-investment, services, finance-banking, tourism, science and technology, innovation, and strengthening coordination to respond to common challenges in the context of many crises and uncertainties in the world.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his pleasure at meeting Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh again, affirming that Vietnam is one of the leading strategic partners in the Indo-Pacific Strategy and India's "Act East" policy; thanked Vietnam for attending the Southern Forum to jointly enhance the role and voice of developing countries; and said that bilateral trade relations have developed very positively in recent times with a turnover of nearly 15 billion USD in 2022.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi cordially invited Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to visit India at a convenient time this year and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh happily accepted the invitation.
Regarding the future direction, the Indian Prime Minister said that economic and trade cooperation continues to be an important pillar in bilateral relations. The two leaders also discussed a number of specific measures and orientations to facilitate businesses of each country to access the market and invest in business, exploiting the potential and good cooperative relations between the two countries.
The two sides agreed to continue promoting and developing consultation and dialogue mechanisms, expanding cooperation in areas where both sides have complementary advantages, closely coordinating, sharing viewpoints and positions on international and regional issues of mutual concern and at international and regional forums, especially at the United Nations as well as at ASEAN-led mechanisms and within the framework of Mekong-Ganga cooperation.
At the same time, the two Prime Ministers affirmed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation, upholding international law, and calling on parties to fully and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and soon complete a substantive and effective Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC), in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS); creating conditions for resolving disputes in the East Sea by peaceful means.

Vietnam - Canada strive to soon bring bilateral trade turnover to 10 billion USD
Also on May 20, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the two sides continue to promote cooperation in the field of trade and investment, striving to soon bring bilateral trade turnover to 10 billion USD; increase development support, respond to non-traditional security challenges, and people-to-people exchange; and suggest that Canada cooperate in new areas such as digital transformation, green transformation, circular economy, and innovation; the two sides can also sign agreements to promote cooperation in areas where both sides have strengths and needs.
The Prime Minister asked Canada to continue to facilitate the export of more Vietnamese goods to the Canadian market. The Prime Minister hoped that the Canadian Government would continue to support, facilitate and improve the legal status of Vietnamese people living, working and studying in Canada.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully invited Prime Minister Trudeau to visit Vietnam again soon. The Canadian Prime Minister thanked Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and expressed his wish to visit Vietnam again soon.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau affirmed that he attaches importance to relations with Vietnam and appreciates Vietnam's growing role and position in the international arena, which is clearly demonstrated by Japan and other G7 countries inviting Vietnam to attend the expanded G7 Summit; emphasizing that Canada supports Vietnam's development path.
The two Prime Ministers agreed that the more difficult and crisis-ridden the world economy is, the more countries, including Canada and Vietnam, need to connect, cooperate, and support each other. Prime Minister Trudeau also highly appreciated the contributions of the Vietnamese community in Canada to Canada's development.
Prime Minister J. Trudeau highly agreed with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's proposals on measures to promote relations, including maintaining and promoting economic and trade relations with Vietnam within the framework of the CPTPP Agreement and other frameworks.
Prime Minister Trudeau also asked Vietnam to support Canada in strengthening cooperation with ASEAN and the region. Prime Minister Trudeau appreciated Vietnam's participation in the United Nations Human Rights Council and the two Prime Ministers emphasized that the two sides can discuss issues of difference through frank and sincere dialogue.
Prime Minister Trudeau emphasized that Canada always upholds international law, the rules-based order and supports ASEAN's central role in the regional architecture.
