It was moving to see the national flag flying atop the mountain.
To commemorate the 78th anniversary of National Day on September 2nd (September 2nd, 1945 – September 2nd, 2023), youth union members of Tuong Son commune, Anh Son district, Nghe An province, organized the renovation of the flagpole, replaced the national flag, and held a flag-raising ceremony on the summit of Len Vu mountain, the highest point in the locality.
Len Vu Mountain, nearly 400 meters high, consists of two peaks and is located in Hamlet 8 and Hamlet 9 of Tuong Son Commune. The tradition of raising the flag on this mountain peak originated from an idea by a group of young people in Hamlet 9 of Tuong Son Commune. In 2012, this group wanted to do something meaningful to express their patriotism and national pride on National Day, a major national holiday, and they chose to raise the flag on the summit of Len Vu Mountain in the commune.
For over 10 years, on important occasions, the youth union members of Tuong Son commune have organized the refurbishment of the flagpole and the replacement of the national flag .
According to Mr. Le Quoc Tri, Secretary of the Youth Union of Tuong Son commune, recognizing this as a practical and meaningful activity, and as a tradition, for many years now, every year on National Day, September 2nd, the youth union members of Tuong Son commune, Anh Son district, organize the renovation of the flagpole and the replacement of the national flag.
This year, the Tuong Son Commune Youth Union, in coordination with the commune's police officers, organized the refurbishment and replacement of the national flag on the summit of Len Vu Mountain. Reaching the summit required navigating a difficult and treacherous path through complex terrain, but the young union members were still very enthusiastic in participating. Immediately after the national flag was hoisted, the young union members performed a solemn and moving flag-raising ceremony.
The flag symbolizes the spirit of unity, patriotism, and national pride of every Vietnamese citizen.
According to Mr. Thai Doan Quynh, Secretary of the Anh Son District Youth Union, this activity has been maintained annually by the youth union members of Tuong Son commune on April 30th, National Day September 2nd, and Lunar New Year.
Seeing the national flag flying atop the mountain fills everyone with immense pride. This is a symbol of the spirit of unity, patriotism, and national pride of every Vietnamese citizen.
"The red flag with a yellow star is not only respectfully displayed on mountaintops by the young generation of Anh Son district, but also through projects such as 'National Flag Roads' and 'Youth Flag Roads,' creating a joyful and enthusiastic atmosphere during the days when the country happily celebrates National Day on September 2nd," said the Secretary of the Anh Son District Youth Union.
The sacred symbol of the homeland flies proudly in the wind.
Flags fluttering brightly in the countryside.
Besides Tuong Son commune, youth union members from Hoa Son commune, Anh Son district, also held a flag-raising ceremony at the summit of O Do mountain in Hamlet 6, Hoa Son commune. O Do mountain is approximately 330m high. The climb to the summit takes nearly an hour on foot due to the steep, treacherous cliffs.
According to Phan Ngoc Tai, Secretary of the Hoa Son Commune Youth Union, the idea of raising the flag on the top of O Do mountain originated from the youth union members in the village in 2016.
The weather in Nghe An province is harsh due to the hot, dry winds from Laos, causing the flag to fade and tear quickly. Therefore, from 2017 to the present, the Hoa Son commune delegation has replaced the national flag and organized flag-raising ceremonies here on major national holidays.
"Hanging the national flag at O Do hill is of great significance, demonstrating national sovereignty and expressing gratitude to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence and freedom of the nation. It not only creates beauty and solemnity for the landscape but also serves to educate the younger generation about revolutionary traditions," said the Secretary of the Hoa Son Commune Youth Union.
The Anh Son District Youth Union has launched a campaign involving 21 youth union branches throughout the district to build "National Flag Roads" and "Youth Flag Roads".
The Secretary of the Anh Son District Youth Union added that these days, wherever you go, you can easily see vibrant flags and flowers adorning every street and house. The sacred symbols of the Fatherland fluttering in the wind further inspire a spirit of unity and patriotism in every citizen of Nghe An province, a land of "scorching sun and torrential rain."
The image of the red flag with a yellow star fluttering proudly over mountaintops, on every house, and along roads and alleys on National Day is the most beautiful testament to the most sacred symbol of unity.
The vibrant red national flags not only add brilliance to the landscape of this rural area but also honor the national pride and patriotism of every citizen, especially the younger generation.
For today's younger generation, the flag is a symbol of the nation's spirit, the people's devotion, and the heroic sacrifices of countless generations of Vietnamese people in the struggle for national independence and freedom. Because of this profound significance, displaying the national flag has become a unique cultural tradition of the Vietnamese people.
With the proactive spirit of youth, the Anh Son District Youth Union has recently launched a campaign in 21 grassroots youth union branches throughout the district to build "National Flag Roads" and "Youth Flag Roads". "In the coming time, the Standing Committee of the District Youth Union will continue to direct grassroots youth unions to expand the flag-raising activities, gradually bringing a new look and vitality to rural areas," said Mr. Thai Doan Quynh.
