Actively protecting citizens in the case of a Vietnamese man who died at a hotel in Thailand

At the regular press briefing on July 18, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang provided further information on the recent incident in Bangkok, Thailand, where six people, including Vietnamese citizens, were killed, as well as the progress in implementing citizen protection measures.

Specifically, Ms. Pham Thu Hang affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has regularly updated information related to the incident. Thai authorities stated that four of the six people who died at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand on the evening of July 16th were Vietnamese citizens.

Immediately after receiving information about the incident, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh issued a directive instructing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to closely coordinate with the Thai side to investigate and clarify the incident, implement measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese citizens, and requested the Ministry of Public Security to cooperate in the investigation as requested by the Thai Prime Minister to promptly verify the identities of the victims, report on the investigation's progress in a timely manner, implement citizen protection work, and visit and guide the victims' families with procedures related to funeral arrangements as prescribed.

"Following the Prime Minister's directive, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has provided information on the incident to relevant agencies of the Ministry of Public Security to implement operational measures," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson said.

At the same time, the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand has been closely coordinating with Thai authorities to update the situation, support the investigation, request the Royal Thai Police and the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide information on the developments of the incident, and facilitate the Embassy's efforts to protect Vietnamese citizens.

"The Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand has been in continuous contact with Thai authorities to promptly guide the families of the victims on funeral procedures when permitted," Ms. Pham Thu Hang informed.
