On the afternoon of February 13th (the 4th day of the Lunar New Year), the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor Unions organized the "Celebrating Tet with Workers in Rental Housing" program at the rental housing complex of Ms. Huynh Thi Gai (Ward 15, Tan Binh District) for 14 families of disadvantaged workers who could not return to their hometowns for Tet. Attending the event were Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, President of the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor Unions, and Mr. Phan Le Vu, Head of the Labor and Social Affairs Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Department.

At the event, disadvantaged families received 1 million VND (including gifts worth 300,000 VND and 700,000 VND in cash). On this occasion, the families also enjoyed dishes reminiscent of Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year) such as braised pork with eggs, bitter melon soup stuffed with meat, pickled shallots, pickled vegetables, melon seeds, and sweets.

Ms. Phan Thi Nhung (from Nghe An province, a garment worker in Thu Duc City) said that her family hasn't been back to their hometown for Tet (Lunar New Year) for four years. "I live in rented accommodation with my husband and two children in this area. Seeing people packing up to go home for Tet makes me feel a little sad. But staying here and receiving support from Ms. Gai and the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Union makes me very happy and warm-hearted because I feel cared for by strangers," Ms. Nhung said.

Also attending the party, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dung (44 years old, from Ha Nam province) said that he works as a delivery driver while his wife sells lottery tickets. "It's been 10 years since my family went back to our hometown. My wife and I work tirelessly but only earn 500,000 VND a day, which is barely enough to support our three young children, so we've put off going back home for Tet. Today, being able to attend this lunch makes me feel warm and appreciated. The landlord is so thoughtful and caring, so I'm very happy," Mr. Dung shared.

Wishing the families attending the New Year celebration a happy new year, Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Thuy wished the workers and laborers good health, peace, smooth work, and the fulfillment of their life plans.

The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor also thanked Ms. Gai's family for their care and support for the workers renting accommodation, and hoped that Ms. Gai would continue to stand alongside the worker families in her rented accommodation area.

Later that same day, the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor also visited workers at a lodging area in Thu Duc City, where 52 families received support. Prior to that, on February 11th (the second day of Tet), the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor organized the "Celebrating Tet with Workers in Lodging Areas" program for workers at a lodging area in Tan Phu District.
