Since the beginning of July, the Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine has administered African swine fever vaccine to more than 140 fattening pigs belonging to three farming households in Cam Hoang and Duc Chinh communes. This trial vaccination aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the vaccine in preventing African swine fever before implementing widespread vaccination throughout the province in the near future.
The vaccine being tested is manufactured by AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company. This vaccine is used for fattening pigs from 4 weeks of age and older, with a single dose, and provides protection for at least 5 months.
Previously, in October 2023, the Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine also conducted a trial vaccination of 40 fattening pigs belonging to a household in Cao An commune (Cam Giang district). After 28 days of close monitoring, the unit collected 16 serum samples for testing. The results showed that all serum samples achieved protective immunity, and the vaccinated pigs were healthy and developed normally.
