On April 18, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters, Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet received Mr. Sean Kotaro O'Neill, senior official in charge of the Bureau of East Asia and the Pacific , US Department of State, during his working trip to Vietnam.

At the reception, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet expressed his delight at the positive progress in the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in recent times, demonstrated through regular contacts and exchanges between senior leaders of the two countries, the two countries' continued promotion of cooperation in overcoming the consequences of war as well as promoting cooperation in emerging fields such as high technology, energy, etc.

Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet affirmed that Vietnam wishes to continue working with the US to realize and implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in an increasingly in-depth and substantive manner, in line with the interests of the people and businesses of the two countries.

The Deputy Minister expressed regret over the US imposing very high reciprocal tariffs on Vietnam; emphasized that the economies of Vietnam and the US are highly complementary, and affirmed that Vietnam is ready to closely coordinate with the US to propose specific measures to help bilateral economic and trade relations develop stably and long-term, bringing practical benefits to consumers as well as the business communities of the two countries.

Mr. Sean Kotaro O'Neill agreed with Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet's assessments of the positive and comprehensive development of Vietnam-US relations, emphasizing that the US values ​​Vietnam's role and position in the region, and affirmed that the US wishes to continue to closely coordinate with Vietnam to effectively implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework between the two countries.

Regarding cooperation at regional forums, Mr. O'Neill stated that the United States highly appreciates and always supports the central role of ASEAN, affirming that the United States will continue to actively participate in regional mechanisms led by ASEAN.

Towards the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations (1995-2025), the two sides agreed to closely coordinate to organize meaningful commemorative activities, with special attention paid to promoting visits by high-ranking leaders of the two countries during this important anniversary year.
