During the recent trade promotion and meeting with Vietnamese expatriate businesses in Toronto by the Vietnam Coffee Association delegation, we seem to have found additional avenues to boost export growth to the region. These include connecting with expatriate businesses that share similar cultural backgrounds, and adapting products to suit market demands, thereby fully capitalizing on Canada's reduced imports from the United States due to the trade dispute.
Speaking to a VNA reporter in Canada, Robert Carter, President of the Canadian Coffee Association, said that the Canadian market as a whole is seeing a trend toward using high-quality or premium coffee products.
He stated that Vietnam is a valuable coffee-producing country and the trade promotion delegation is doing a great job of accessing the market. Many innovative products from Vietnam could be seen at the event, with quality being a top priority.
According to him, it is important to help Canadians recognize and understand the quality aspects of Vietnamese coffee through certifications, transparency in the supply chain, and innovation in products.
The Vietnamese coffee products brought to Canada this time are considered to have many innovations and creative designs in both quality and packaging, something that Canadians are eagerly seeking. Generally, young consumers in this country, when researching coffee, tend to look for innovative or more unique products. This seems to be creating opportunities for Vietnamese coffee as it enters this market.
Eric Tran, director of Canadian Vita Ginseng Company, revealed that young people in Canada feel that Vietnamese coffee is something very special, unlike any other. It's branded as "Vietnamese Coffee".
Eric Tran attended this event to learn more about Vietnam's exported coffee and also to introduce his product "Vietnamese Gingseng Coffee," a blend of Canadian ginseng and Vietnamese coffee.
The Vietnamese franchise group Accencis was also very interested in the event, sending representative Ann Duong to learn about and connect with Vietnamese partners. According to Ann Duong, Canada does not produce coffee, but Canadians love to drink it. They always want to have high-quality and consistent coffee products, so the group hopes to find relationships with Vietnamese partners who can bring high-quality coffee products to the Canadian market.

The scale of coffee consumption in the Canadian market is considered very large, ranking third globally in per capita coffee consumption. Annually, Canada imports up to 225,000 tons of coffee, and the market for coffee consumption in restaurants and cafes alone reaches nearly $4 billion. With trade promotion events like this one, Vietnamese coffee has a high probability of achieving a higher ranking among Canada's trading partners.
Tran Thu Quynh, Commercial Counselor of the Vietnamese Embassy in Canada, told reporters that this was the first time the Vietnamese Trade Office in Canada had organized a dialogue event with overseas Vietnamese businesses and received a very strong response from the community.
Ms. Quynh assessed the event as a great success because both domestic and overseas Vietnamese businesses share a common love for the coffee industry and for their country. They aspire to work together to build a Vietnamese coffee brand not only in Canada but also globally.
According to Do Ha Nam , Vice President of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association, the meeting between the two sides was very beneficial because it allowed the trade promotion delegation to better understand market needs and overcome limitations so that they can work together in the future.
The trade promotion event of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association and the meeting between domestic coffee exporters and Vietnamese expatriate businesses in Canada has concluded, but it will open up a new direction, a future of cooperation between the Vietnamese community at home and abroad. Unity and collaboration will become an advantage in taking Vietnamese coffee exports further and achieving success in the Canadian market.
