Earlier, at around 4:30 PM on October 16th, Mr. TVH (born in 1995, residing in Ninh Binh province) was operating a barge with license plate SG7337 transporting sand ashore for anchoring when it suddenly sank.

There were four people on the barge: Mr. H., his wife NTQ (born in 1998), his younger brother TVS (born in 2004), and their son TKM (born in 2024), all from Ninh Binh province.

Upon receiving the report, the Vinh Long Provincial Police Directorate instructed the PC07 Department, in coordination with the commune police force and local authorities, to urgently deploy search teams.

Authorities, along with local residents, promptly discovered and rescued Mr. and Mrs. H., bringing them safely ashore. That same night, authorities recovered the bodies of the remaining two victims.

Authorities have now handed over the bodies of the victims to their families for burial.

Initially, authorities determined that the cause of the barge sinking was high waves, strong winds, and swift currents, causing the vessel to lose balance and sink while moving from the sand mining area to the shore.
