Previously, at around 4:30 p.m. on October 16, Mr. TVH (born in 1995, residing in Ninh Binh province) was driving a barge with license plate SG7337 transporting sand to shore to anchor when it suddenly sank.
There were 4 people on the barge, including: Mr. H., his wife NTQ (born in 1998), younger brother TVS (born in 2004) and son TKM (born in 2024), all from Ninh Binh province.
Upon receiving the news, the Board of Directors of Vinh Long Provincial Police directed Department PC07, in coordination with the commune police force and local authorities, to urgently deploy forces to search.
Authorities and local people promptly discovered and rescued Mr. H. and his wife, bringing them safely to shore. That same night, authorities found the bodies of the two remaining victims.
Currently, the authorities have handed over the victims' bodies to their families for funeral arrangements.
Initially, authorities determined the cause of the barge sinking was due to big waves, strong winds and strong currents, causing the vehicle to lose balance and sink while moving from the sand mine area to shore.
