Previously, this morning, June 9, the Provincial People's Court brought defendant Ninh Thi Van Anh to trial on the above two charges.
According to the indictment, on January 24, 2022, Ninh Thi Van Anh called Gia Dinh Viet Trading, Transport and Tourism Company Limited (Gia Dinh Viet Company, headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City) to rent a self-driving car and asked the driver to deliver it to Phan Thiet City ( Binh Thuan ). After the agreement, the company sent a driver (license plate 51H - 242.74) from Ho Chi Minh City to Phan Thiet City to sign a 3-month car rental contract (January 24 - April 24, 2022) and deliver the car and related documents to Van Anh. Tina Duong paid the first month's car rental fee and the car delivery fee to Gia Dinh Viet Company of 50 million VND and used the car for travel. On April 24, 2022, the car rental contract expired. The company's staff contacted Tina Duong many times to ask her to return the car, but she deliberately avoided returning the car and did not pay the remaining 2 months of rental fee.
In May 2022, Van Anh drove to Ninh Binh and invited a friend to open a fruit shop. At this time, Van Anh bought 2 beautiful phone numbers in installments from a person in Hai Duong province for 500 million VND. To have money to invest in selling fruit and pay for phone numbers in installments, Van Anh sold her car with license plate 51H - 242.74 to Mr. H. (living in Hanoi) for 450 million VND. After signing the sales contract, Mr. H. transferred 390 million VND to Van Anh.
After that, Van Anh returned to Ho Chi Minh City, went on social media to order a fake car registration certificate with license plate 51H - 242.74 for 5 million VND, then brought it to Ninh Binh and gave it to Mr. H. to gain trust and lied that she was waiting for a relative to return from a business trip to complete the procedures to change the owner's name. In July 2022, due to debt to many people, Van Anh left Ninh Binh to return to Ho Chi Minh City and went to Phan Thiet City to live. Due to the turmoil on social media and citizen denunciations, the local police invited this girl to work.
Through collecting evidence, the Investigation Police Agency of Binh Thuan Province prosecuted and executed an order to temporarily detain Ninh Thi Van Anh for the above two crimes.
Regarding the civil part, Tina Duong paid 300 million VND to Gia Dinh Viet Company and paid Mr. H. 360 million VND. Currently, both victims in the case have filed a petition to reduce the sentence for the female defendant.
At the trial, the defendant Ninh Thi Van Anh confessed honestly and hoped to receive leniency from the law so that she could return home soon to take care of her elderly mother. Also at the trial, the victim, Mr. H (residing in Hanoi), submitted a request for an in absentia trial. Regarding the amount of 30 million VND that the defendant Ninh Thi Van Anh had not yet compensated, Mr. H did not request the defendant to compensate due to the defendant's difficult family circumstances. After reviewing the case file and the developments at the trial, the Trial Panel sentenced the defendant Ninh Thi Van Anh to the above sentence.
